IV. DEACONS CARRYING THE WORD TO THE EAST AND OPENING

Senior Deacon

  1. Rises when addressed by the SW.
  2. Takes rod from the stand after SW gives order.
  3. Comes to attention.
  4. Steps off.
  5. Makes a right turn on border of North pavement or when in line with it. Walks along border of North pavement.
  6. Stops in N-W corner of pavement.
  7. Comes to attention, facing West.
  8. Makes an about face, facing East, rod at attention.
  9. After SW comes down on the level, advances.
  10. Makes a right face when SW faces him.
  11. Places rod at salute, then gives due guard and signs simultaneously with SW.
  12. Steps off on right foot, while holding rod on left shoulder, lifting rod just clear of the floor with left hand down and fully extended along rod, and approaches SW.
  13. After this ritual completed and as SW turns to JD.
  14. Takes rod in right hand, steps back with left foot first to NW corner of pavement, facing South, rod at attention.
  15. Makes a left face when SW and JD face East.
  16. Steps off simultaneously with JD and walks along border of north pavement.
  17. Stops in NE corner of pavement, facing East, rod at attention.
  18. Makes a right face when Master faces him.
  19. Repeats movements as done with SW.
  20. Remains on NE corner of pavement, facing South, rod at attention, until Master says: "Together, Brethren," then faces Master.
  21. After signs are given, makes an about face together with JD, facing West.
  22. After prayer and Chaplain returns to his place, steps off on left foot simultaneously with JD walks along border of North pavement. Makes a left turn when one step West of Altar; stops in front of Altar, facing South, rod at attention. Makes a left face, facing E, rod at attention.
  23. Transfers rod to stand, kneels, arranges the Great Lights, stands, gives sign, takes rod and takes one step to left, rod at attention.
  24. After Master declares Lodge open and raps gavel, returns, by squares to his place, places rod in stand and sits down.
  25. Takes one sidestep to left, facing East, rod at attention.
  26. When Master seats Lodge, makes a left face, Steps off makes a right turn on border of North pavement.
  27. Walks along border of North pavement.
  28. Makes a left turn when opposite his place. Stops in front of seat, rod at attention.
  29. Makes an about face, returns rod to the stand and sits down.

Junior Deacon

  1. Rises when addressed by the SW.
  2. Takes rod from the stand after SW gives order.
  3. Comes to attention.
  4. Steps off, walks in square. Goes to S-W corner of pavement, facing E, rod at attention.
  5. When SW faces SD, makes a left face, facing North, rod at attention.
  6. When SW faces him, places rod at salute, then gives signs with him.
  7. Steps off on left foot, lifting rod just clear of the floor with left hand down and fully extended along rod, and approaches SW.
  8. Stops when one step from SW, gives grip first, then brings right foot forward to right foot of SW.
  9. With rod still in left hand, steps back with left foot first to S-W corner of pavement.
  10. Takes rod in right hand, facing North, rod at attention.
  11. Makes a right face when SW and SD face East .
  12. Steps off on right foot simultaneously with SD and walks along border of South pavement.
  13. Stops in S-E corner of pavement, facing East, rod at attention.
  14. Makes a left face, facing North, rod at attention, when Master faces SD.
  15. When Master faces him, places rod at salute, and repeats movements as done with SW.
  16. Remains on S-E corner of pavement, facing North, rod at attention, until Master says, "Together, Brethren," then faces the Master.
  17. After prayer, makes an about face together with SD.
  18. Steps off simultaneously with SD. walks along border of South pavement.
  19. Stops in S-W corner of pavement. Comes to attention.
  20. Makes an about face, facing East, rod at attention.
  21. After receiving Master's order, makes an about face. Steps off goes to the door.
  22. Attends the door as in opening a lodge.
  23. Returns to his place, walks in square, puts rod in stand and sits down after Master seats Lodge.
