VII. OFFICIAL VISITATION
Note: Only the Grand Master, the Deputy Grand Master, the Grand Lecturers, and Grand Lodge Inspectors are entitled to make official visitations and to be received with Grand Honors. Only the Grand Master, the Deputy Grand Master and the Senior Grand Lecturer wear a hat when being received. Grand Lodge Inspectors will be received with Grand Honors only when on official visitation.
Other Grand Lodge officers will enter the Lodge as any other member, but should be invited to a seat in the East.
1. Junior Deacon
-
When alarm is given at the door, rises from his seat, gives the sign and addresses the Master.
-
Takes rod from the stand and attends the alarm as in opening,or closing a Lodge.
-
Leaves door open. Makes an about face, gives the sign and reports to the Master (repeats Tyler's report). After Master gives order.
-
Open door wide and steps to South side of door facing East, rod at attention.
-
Crosses rods with SD when he arrives on North side of door, both facing E.
-
Holds rod interlocked with SD's over visitor and Marshal. Steps off and walks abreast to S-W corner of pavement.
-
Makes a left column on S-W corner of pavement, walks along West pavement.
-
Makes a right column when opposite SW's-station and proceeds to the Altar.
-
Does not detach rod as yet.
-
After Master gives his order to Marshall, detaches rod and takes one long step to the side, facing East, rod at attention.
-
When last visitor on South side passes him, makes a right face and steps off.
-
Makes a right turn on border of S pavement, walks along S pavement and proceeds to his place.
-
Comes to attention, makes an about face and returns rod to its stand together with SD, but remains standing until Lodge is seated.
2. Senior Deacon
-
Rises from his seat, takes rod from the stand, rod at attention, when Marshal starts for the Altar.
-
Steps off as soon as Marshal leaves the Altar.
-
Makes a right turn on border of N pavement, or when in line with it.
-
Walks along North pavement.
-
Makes a left turn on N-W corner of pavement.
-
Walks along West pavement.
-
Makes a right turn on S-W corner of pavement.
-
Stops on North side of door, abreast of JD.
-
Comes to attention.
-
Crosses rods with JD, then faces East.
-
Holds rod interlocked with JD over visitor and Marshal.
-
Steps off and walks abreast to S-W corner of pavement.
-
Makes a left column on S-W corner of pavement.
-
Walks along West pavement.
-
Makes a right column when opposite SW's station and proceeds to Altar.
-
Does not detach rods as yet.
-
After Master gives his order to Marshal, detaches rods and takes one long step to the side, facing East, rod at attention.

3. Marshal
-
Rises from his seat when addressed by the Master, but does not take baton.
-
After Master gives his order, takes baton and places it under right arm, holding it with his right hand.
-
Steps off and walks to S pavement. Makes a left turn on border of South pavement or when in line with it.
-
Makes a right turn when one step West of Altar.
-
Stops in front of Altar and makes a right face, facing E.
-
Transfers baton under left arm. Drops first right hand to right side, then gives sign. Drops right hand again to side before taking baton.Transfers again baton under right arm.
-
Makes a right face. Steps off, makes a right turn on border of S pavement, walks along S pavement to S-W corner of pavement, proceeds to the door, then goes out.
-
Takes visitor's left arm with his right hand, baton in carry under his left arm.
-
Walks between Deacons, rods interlocking above him and visitor, to S-W corner of pavement.
-
Makes a left column on S-7W corner of pavement, walks along West pavement.
-
Right column when opposite SW's station and proceeds to the Altar.
-
Stops about one step from the Altar.
-
Gives the sign together with the visitor.
-
Transfers baton under right arm before introducing visitor and his party.
-
After receiving Master's order, transfers baton again under left arm and takes visitor's left arm.
-
Takes one-half step back with right foot so as to face North East Ward.
-
Conducts visitor to the East by way of North.
-
Bows to visitor after conducting him to the foot of East. Returns baton under right arm.
-
Immediately makes an about face and returns to his place along North pavement, making a left turn when one step West of Altar, left turn on border of S pavement, then turns right when opposite his place. Stops in front of his seat, makes an about face, but remains standing until Lodge is seated.
4. Master
-
Calls Lodge to order (if at refreshment) when alarm is given at the door.
-
JD informs him of the alarm.
-
Asks JD to attend to it.
-
After JD's report, directs the Marshal to retire to conduct visitor(s) to a seat in the Lodge.
-
As soon as Marshal goes out, rises and calls up the Lodge.
-
As Marshal reenters escorting the Grand Master, Deputy Grand Master or Senior Grand Lecturer, removes hat with right hand and places it on the table.
-
Calls the brethren "Together" to give grand honors.
-
After Marshal has introduced visitor to him, makes very brief remark of welcome.
-
Requests Marshal to conduct Visitor to a seat in the East.
-
Shakes hand with Visitor.
-
Presents gavel to Visitor.
-
Puts his hat on again after GM or GM's Deputy removes his and when the gavel is returned to him.
-
Seats Lodge if visiting officer has not previously done so.
(How to execute Grand Honors)
If received in 1º: Give first d-g & $ of 1º, followed by a battery of 3, right hand above left.
If received in 2º: Give first d-g & $ of 1º, followed by a battery of 3, right hand above left; then give d-g & $ of 2º followed by a battery of 3, left hand above right.
If received in 3º: Give first d-g & $ of 1º, followed by a battery of 3, right hand above left; then give d-g & $ of 2º, followed by a battery of 3, left hand above right and then give d-g & $ of 3º, followed by a battery of 3, right hand above left.
Time it so that the last battery is completed when Marshal and Visitor arrive at the Altar.
(If the reception is public, give Public Grand Honors of Freemasonry as described in the Monitor).
