Minutes 29 September 1971

The 421st Special Meeting of Far East Lodge No 1, F&AM was held at the Masonic Temple No. 3 Bluff, Yamate-cho Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 29th day of Sept. 1971.

A lodge of Fellow Craft Masons was opened in due and ancient form at the order or the Wor. Master in the East at 18:00 hours, with Worshipful Master Wor. Bro. Vanvig in the East, Wor. Bro. Nishiyama in the West, and Bro. Mitchell in the South, for the purpose of conferring the Third Degree of Masonry on the following Brother: Carl Arthur Bandy

The Wor. Master recognized the distinguished Brethren present at this time as registered in the Tiler's record of this date.

The Lodge was lowered to the Second Degree for the purpose of hearing the proficiency of Bro. Bandy at 18:15 hours.

Bro. Bandy was examined by Bro. Somerville and pronounced proficient by the Wor. Master in the Second Degree.

The Lodge was raised to the Third Degree and the Worshipful Master announced that this Lodge of Master Masons had convened for the purpose of raising Bro. Bandy but before doing so, that we would receive the Most Worshipful Grand Master with Honors, at 18:45 hours.

Most Worshipful Brother Floren L. Quick, Grand Master of Masons in the Jurisdiction of Japan accompanied by Grand Lodge Officers and Past Grand Masters were received with Grand Honors. Accompanying Grand Lodge Officers and Past Grand Masters are as listed in the Tiler's register of this date.

After appropriate remarks by the Grand Master, The Worshipful Master recognized all other distinguished Brethren and visitors as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date, and informed the Brethren that tonight was our annual Past Masters Night and that for the balance of the evening the Lodge Chairs would be filled by Past Masters. He then called the Lodge free from restraint for the purpose of changing officers at 18:55 hours.

Bro. Carl Arthur Bandy was obligated as a Master Mason with Most Wor. Bro. Nielsen in the East, Most Wor. Bro. Robertson in the West, and Wor. Bro. Williams in the South.

Bro. Bandy knocked on the door at 19:00 hours, was admitted at 19:03 hours and obligated at 19:10 hours,

Wor. Bro. Vanvig presented the Working Tools.

It being High-Twelve, the Craft were called from labor to refreshment for the purpose of conferring the Second Section of the Master Mason's degree, the following Fellow Craft Mason was raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason: Bro. Carl Arthur Bandy

With Very Worshipful Bro. Jackson in the East, Most Wor. Bro. Nielsen in the West and Wor. Bro. Williams in the South.

At the sound of the gavel in the East, the Craft were called from refreshment to labor again with Most Wor. Bro. Nielsen in the East, Most Wor. Bro. Robertson in the West and Wor. Bro. Williams in the South.

The Third Degree Lecture was given by Very Wor. Bro. Jackson, The Charge was delivered by Most Worshipful Bro. Quick, The Lambskin Apron was presented by Most Wor. Bro. Nielsen. The Masonic Bible and Lecture was given by Very Wor. Bro. Jackson. Bro. Bandy responded with appropriate remarks.

At this time the Most Wor. Grand Master Floren L. Quick addressed the Lodge, congratulated Bro. Bandy on being raised to the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason, the Degree Team officers for an outstanding performance. and spoke about items of historic interest concerning Masonry in Japan.

There being no further business to come before this Lodge of Master Masons, the Most Worshipful Grand Master announced that the Lodge would proceed to close, Peace and Harmony prevailing. This Lodge was closed in ADEQUATE form at the will and pleasure of the Most Worshipful Grand Master at 21:45 hours, with Most Wor. Bro. Floren L. Quick in the East, Most Wor. Bro. Floyd Jackson Robertson in the West and Bro. Riffle in the South.
