The 173rd Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F&AM, was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 3 Bluff Yamato-cho Naka-Ku, Yokohama, Japan, on the last day of September, 1971. A Lodge of Master Masons was opened in due form at 1930 hours with Worshipful Master Bro Vanvig in the East, Bro Riffle in the West, and Wor. Bro. Nishiyama in the South.
The Worshipful Master recognized the Distinguished Brethren present as listed in the Tiler's register for this date. Also Visiting: Bro. Otto.
The first order of business was the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting No. 172 and they were approved as corrected. Also the Treasure's report was approved as read subject to the usual audit. Next order of business was the report of the several committees.
HOUSE: The Worshipful Master Bro. Vanvig reported that the new windows had been installed.
DeMOLEY: Negative.
PUBLICATION COMMITTEE: Negative.
SICK AND VISITATION: Wor. Bro. Vanvig reported that Bro. Somerville was in an automobile accident but is OK, also that he will be leaving shortly.
LIFE MEMBERSHIP: The Secretary reported one new Life Member, Bro. Gerald William Hudson, No. 134.
AUDIT COMMITTEE: Negative. The Wor. Master appointed Bro. Alvarez to the Audit committee. He accepted.
JOB'S DAUGHTERS: MW Bro. Neilson reported that the girls had had their first meeting and had accepted 2 new petitions.
MW Bro. Peck gave a brief talk concerning his up-coming trip to England, Europe, and India, and that he will be returning around the first of December.
Balloting on the following Petitioner was held and he was elected to receive the Degrees of Masonry in this lodge: MR TAKAO SAITO
The Secretary read the bills for the Month of August 1971, and it was regularly moved and seconded that the bills be paid. CARRIED.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None
NEW BUSINESS: The Secretary read a letter concerning G.L. Meeting and Workshop to be held on 15-16 Oct. the 3 pillars should attend and all Brethren welcome, this to be read again next meeting. Also the Wor. Master announced that the Grand Master will attend our Past Masters' Night on 29 Sept.
The Wor. Master announced that only $12.00 was expended for guests at the last Fellowship Dinner.
The following appointments to serve for the rest of this term were made by the Wor. Master.
He also announced that the Lodge will go on regular schedule effective 1 Sept. and that the next meeting on the 8th would be an EA with 2 candidates.
There being no further business to come before the Lodge of Master Masons, the Worshipful Master announced that the Lodge would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, the Lodge was closed in due and ancient form at the will and pleasure of the Worshipful Master, at 21:00 hours, with Worshipful Master Bro. Vanvig in the East, Bro. Riffle in the West and Bro. Nishiyama in the South.
