Minutes 5 April 1972

The 180th Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F&AM, was held at the Masonic Temple at no. 3 Yamate-cho, Yokohama, Japan on the 5th day of April, 1972. A Lodge of Master Masons was opened in due and ancient form at 19:30 hours, with Wor. Bro. Vanvig in the East, Bro. Riffle in the West, and Bro Otani in the South.

The Wor. Master recognized the distinguished Brethren present as registered in the Tiler's register of this date.

He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the Month of April, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of our last Stated Meeting and any subsequent Special Meetings.

The minutes were approved as corrected.

The next order of business was the Treasurer's Report.

The Treasurer's Report was approved as read, subject to the usual audit.

The next order of business was the report of the several committees:

HOUSE COMMITTEE: Neg.

ENTERTAINMENT COMMITTEE: WBro. Nishiyama reminded, the Brethren of the upcoming Grand Master's Banquet.

DEMOLAY: Bro. Otani reported that a conclave was held last week at Camp Drake, however he was unable to attend.

PUBLICATION COMMITTEE: Bro. Riffle reported that Friendly Tips were out.

COACHING: Bro. DeYoung reported he was working with Bros. Henderson and Gonzales.

SICK & VISITATION: Bro. Bennett reported himself back and feeling better.

LAPSATION: WBro. Williams reported about half of deliquent notices had been mailed out and the other half would be mailed within a week, also one new life member — Wor. Bro. Nakano # 137.

JOB'S DAUGHTER'S: Bro. Riffle reported that the Bethel Officers were installed on 25 March, l972.

Balloting was held on the following petitioners and they were elected to receive the Degrees of Masonry in the Lodge.

The following new petitions were read to receive the Degrees of Masonry in this Lodge.

The Secretary presented the bills for the Month of March and they were approved as presented.

OLD BUSINESS: None.

NEW BUSINESS: The Wor. Master asked for a show of hands of those who would be attending the degree work being conducted by Lodge No. 640 on 10 April, and MWBro. Peck reminded all that if they wished to see and hear the Most Worshipful Grand Master of Scotland, who would be in attendance, they should arrive about 5 PM.

The Secretary then read two letters from the Grand Lodge.

AUDITING: Bro. Crosthwaite - WBro. Olmstead as as chairman.
LAPSATION: WBro Williams and WBro. Nishiyama as as chairman.
LIFE MEMBERSHIP: MW Bro. Robertson and WBro. Williams as chairman.
MASONIC EDUCATION: MW Bros. Peck, Robertson and Olmstead.
JOB'S DAUGHTERS: Bro. Alavarez with Bro. Riffle as chairman.

The Wor. Master expressed appreciation to Bros. DeYoung and Henderson for the fine job of laying the carpet in the hallway, also, commended Bro. Tayama for relettering the Name Tags and Bro. Riffle on the outstanding work in publishing the Friendly Tips. He also gave reconigntion to Bros. Bandy and Chun for the excellent refreshment following the meetings, and announced that next week would be a First Degree.

MISC. BUSINESS: MW Bro. Peck informed.the Brethren that MW Bro. Kashiwagi had lost his mother about a week ago, and suggested that a letter of condolence be sent to him. He also remarked that he would take and give copies of the F.T.s to the other Masonic Bodies as the Membership Listing might be valuable for addresses. He also pointed out that Far East would be celebrating its 25th anniversary next year and we should be working up some type of publication to commemorate it. He also spoke on items of general interest.

There being no further business to come before this Lodge of Master Masons, the Wor. Master announced that the Lodge would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, the Lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 21:15 hours with Worshipful Master Wor. Bro. Vanvig in the East, Bro. Riffle in the West, and Bro. Otani in the South
