Minutes 1 November 1972

The 186th Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F&AM, was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 3 Yamate-cho, Yokohama, Japan. on the 1st day of November, 1972. A Lodge of Master Masons was opened in due and ancient form at 19:30 hours, with Bro. Riffle (acting WM) in the East, Bro. Otani (acting SW) in the West, and Bro. Chun (acting JW) in the South.

The Wor. Master recognized the distinguished Brethren present as listed in the Tiler's register of this date.

He then informed the Brethren of the Passing of Bro. Alfred G. Sulton and Brother James N. Wimpee, both Life Members of this Lodge, and asked the Brethren to rise for a moment of silent prayer.

After which the first order of business was the reading of the Minutes of the last Stated Meeting and other special meetings.

It was moved by MWBro. Robertson and seconded by Bro. Chun that the minutes be accepted as corrected. MOTION CARRIED

The next order of business was the Treasurer's report, and it was accepted as read.

The next order of business was the report of the several committees:

HOUSE: Neg.

CHARITY: Neg.

ENTERTAINMENT: Bro. Riffle announced that the installation banquet would be held on 16 Dec. and Bros. DeYoung and Henderson and himself would take care of the details.

DEMOLEY: Neg.

PUBLICATIONS: Bro. Riffle reported FT's being printed and should be ready to mail in the near future.

COACHING: Bro. DeYoung reported Bro. Fix and Bro. Zalewski being coached in the 1st Degree, and Bro. Phillippe in the Third Degree. Bro. Otani reported Bro. Okahiro and Sato still working on the First Degree. Bro. Alvarez working with Bro. O.C. Smith.

AUDITING: Bro. Alvarez reported that Wor. Bro. Jimerson, the G.L. Inspector, had made a general inspection of his and the Secretary's records, and they were satisfactory.

SICK & VISITATION: Bro. Bennett gave a Neg. Report but said that he was doing well himself.

JOBS DAUGHTERS: Neg.

LIFE MEMBERSHIP: Neg.

PETITIONS TO BE BALLOTED:

The petition of the following named candidate was balloted and accepted.

The following Petition to receive the Degrees of Masonry in this Lodge was read.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

Bro. Riffle read aloud articles of the Grand Lodge Constitution and By-Laws as well as the Lodge By-Laws pertaining to election of Lodge Officers for the ensuing Masonic year.

NEW BUSINESS:

MW Bro. Peck reminded the Brothren that we should purchase a Past Master's Bar for WBro. Vanvig, also that we should submit the names of the Installing Officer and Marshal to the Grand Lodge.

Motion by WBro. Williams seconded by MW Bro. Peck to purchase a Past Master's Bar for W Bro. Vanvig. MOTION CARRIED

Bro. Riffle asked MW Bro. Robertson to be the Installing Officer, and W Bro. Nishiyama to be the Installing Marshall, Both accepted. He also announced that the Lodge would be opened prior to 17:00 and that the ceremonies would begin promptly at 17:30 and it would be an Open Installation. He also directed the Secretary to invite the Grand Master or his representative to attend.

Bro. Nishiyama moved and WBro. Williams seconded that a sum of ¥9,000.00 be donated to the Grand Lodge Charity Fund. MOTION CARRIED

MW Bro. Peck suggested that the Secretary prepare a list of all Brethren of Far East Lodge No. 1, who would be dropped for NPD on 31 Dec. of this year as some of them might be known by the Brethren present and posibly notified. He also informed the Brethren that The Grand Master Of DeMoley J.W. Nutt would be present on Sunday December 3, at 2 PM at the Masonic Temple in Tokyo and invited all to come. Additionally he spoke briefly on his experience while attending Installation of Grand Lodge Officers in the Republic of China, and other items of Masonic information.

There being no further business to come before this Lodge of Master Masons, the Wor. Master announced that the Lodge would proceed to close.

Peace and harmony prevailing the Lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 21:20 hours with Bro. Riffle (acting WM) in the East, Bro Otani (acting SW) in the West and Bro. Chun (acting JW) in the South.
