The 190th Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F&AM, was held. at the Masonic Temple No. 3 Bluff, Yamate-cho, Yokohama, Japan on the 7th day of Feb. 1973.
A Lodge of Master Masons was opened in due and ancient form at 19:30 hours, with Wor. Bro. Riffle, Worshipful Master, in the East, Bro. Alvarez, Senior Warden, in the West and Bro. Chun, Junior Warden, in the South.
The WM recognized the distinguished Brethren present as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date.
The WM announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the Month of February, the first order of business would be the reading of the Minutes of our last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.
The Secretary read the minutes,and they were approved as corrected.
The next order of business was the Treasurer's Report. Bro. Hodges gave the report and it was approved as presented.
The WM made the following several committee appointments:
HOUSE: Wor. Bro. Riffle as Chairman and Bro. Hodges as Treasurer-Secretary.
ENTERTAINMENT: Bro. DeYoung as Chairman and Bro. Henderson ass't.
DeMOLAY: Bro. Otani as Chairman and W Bro. Nishiyama as ass't.
JOB'S DAUGHTERS: Bra. Alvarez as Chairman and Bro. Tayama as ass't.
PUBLICATIONS: Bro. Chun as Chairman and Bros. Hodges and Henderson assisting.
EXAMINATION & RECEPTION: Bro. Alvarez as Chairman and Bros. Chun and Webb assisting.
COACHING: Bro. Alvarez Chairman, and Bros. Chun and Henderson assisting.
AUDITING: Bro. Chun as Chairman and Bro. O. C. Smith assisting.
SICK & VISITATION: Bro. Tayama as Chairman and Bro. Zalewski assisting.
LAPSATION: Wor. Bro. Williams as Chairman and Wor. Bro. Nishiyama assisting.
LIFE MEMBERSHIP: Wor. Bro. Williams as Chairman.
MASONIC EDUCATION: MW Bro. Robertson as Chairman and MW Bro. Peck assisting.
The following Committee Reports were given:
HOUSE: W Bro. Riffle reported that a new caretaker for the Temple and grounds had been employed, also repairs etc. to the caretaker's quarters in the amount of ¥120,000 had been made.
JOB'S DAUGHTERS: Bro. Alvarez reported that Miss Debbie Parker had been installed as Queen, also that he was endeavoring to set up a Bethel at Yokota AB, Japan.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS: NONE
NEW PETITIONS READ: Mr. CAMPBELL, David Miles II.
NEW BUSINESS: The Secretary presented the bills for the month of January, MW Bro. Peck moved and Bro. Oliver seconded that the bills be paid. Motion carried.
MW Bro. Peck reminded the Brethren of the Grand Lodge Annual Communication to be held 16-17 March, 1973 at the Masonic Temple, Toyko. New Grand Officers would be selected and also a Grand Lodge of Instruction would be held. He suggested that all Brethren who would attend the Banquet please make reservations as soon as posible and that the guest speaker would be the Ambassador from Finland. Also, that an increase in Grand Lodge per capita tax would be voted on at this communication and the next G.L. Executive Committee meeting would. be held on 3 Mar, 1973.
The Wor. Master announced that we would be holding only two meetings per month unless it became necessary to have more. Also announced the following important dates to remember:
Bro. Alvarez reported that he would be checking with Stars and Stripes to obtain estimate for printing of 25th Anniversary booklet. MW Bro. Peck suggested including solicitation in FT's to help defray cost of printing Anniversary Booklet.
The WM read List of Brethren who had sent in donations during the month of January.
MW Bro. Peck requested the Gavel and then instructed Wor. Bro. Nishiyama to act as Installing Marshal and conduct Bro. Walter Lafayette Doerty to the Altar after which MW Bro. Peck (Installing Officer for Far East Lodge No. 1) installed Bro. Doerty into his office as Marshal, then instructed the Marshal of Ceremonies to conduct Bro. Doerty to his Station. MW Bro. Peck then returned the Gavel to Wor Bro. Riffle.
MASONIC EDUCATION: MW Bro. Robertson presented an article of Masonic interest which he read from The General Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters which was well taken. He also informed the Master and Brethren of his willingness to assist at any time.
There being no further business to come before this Lodge of Master Masons, the Worshipful Master announced that the Lodge would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, the Lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 21:30 hours with Wor. Bro. Riffle, Worshipful Master, in the East, Bro. Alvarez, Senior Warden, in the West and Bro. Chun, Junior Warden in the South.
