Minutes 2 May 1973

The 193rd Stated meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F&AM, was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 3 Bluff, Yamate-cho, Yokohama, Japan on the 2nd day of May 1973.

A Lodge of Master Masons was opened in due and ancient form at 19:40 hours, with W Bro. Riffle in the East, Bro. Alvarez, Senior Warden, in the West and Bro. Chun, Junior Warden, in the South.

The WM recognized the distinguished Brethren present as listed in the Tiler's register of this date.

He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the Month of May, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of our last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.

The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.

The text order of business was the Treasurer's Report, it was presented by Bro. Hodges and approved as presented subject to the usual audit.

The next order of business was the Report of the several committees:

HOUSE: W Bro. Riffle reported that the special meeting called for 13 April had been postponed to 17 April, and the main topics of discussion were the Temple and property situation, power mower and other tools procured for caretaker, and a Bazaar to help raise funds in the near future.

CHARITY: NEG.

DeMOLAY: VW Bro. Nishiyama reported NEG, however he and others were working to re-activate the chapter.

PUBLICATIONS: Bro. Hodges reported NEG. Bro. Alvarez mentioned that he had requested and was waiting for an estimate from Stars and Stripes for the printing of FTs. He thought it would be about one half the present price.

COACHING: Bro. Alvarez reported Bro. Holley might be ready soon and Bro. Gibson was ready. W Bro. Riffle reported Bro. Campbell and Bro. Fix should be ready by the 23rd of this month.

AUDITING: Bro. Chun gave NEG report.

SICK: NEG.

LIFE MEMBERSHIP & LAPSATION: W Bro. Williams gave NEG report.

JOB'S DAUGHTERS: Bro. Alvarez reported that he would be going to Yokota on Saturday the 5th, for installation of officers, installation of Bethel Guardian, and initiation.

EDUCATION: MW Bro. Peck announced Grand Lodge executive meeting to be held on 12 May, and commented briefly on his visit to the Grand Lodge of the Philippines, and other items of masonic interest.

PETITIONS: Balloted on to receive the degrees of Masonry in this Lodge.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: The Wor. Master asked for discussion on date for holding Grand Master's Banquet, and it was decided for the 26th of May, Saturday at 19:00 hours at the Yokaro, Dai Han Ten Chinese Restaurant.

NEW BUSINESS: W Bro. Williams moved and it was seconded by Bro. Hodges that an ad be taken in the annual Shrine Booklet in the amount of ¥11,000. CARRIED

MW Bro. Peck announced that the MW Grand Master would depart Japan on the 28th or 29th of May, however that the Grand Lodge would carry on in the usual manner.

Worshipful Master announced the following schedule of the balance of the Month.

There being no further business to come before this Lodge of Master Masons, the Wor. Master announced that the Lodge would proceed to close.

Peace and harmony prevailing, the Lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 21:00 hours with W Bro. Riffle in the East, Bro. Alvarez, Senior Warden, in the West and Bro. Chun, Junior Warden, in the South.
