Minutes 4 July 1973

The 192nd Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F&AM, was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 3 Bluff, Yamate-cho, Yokohama, Japan on the 4th day of July, 1973.

A Lodge of Master Masons was opened in due and ancient form at 19:30 hours with Bro. Alvarez (acting WM) in the East, Bro. Hodges (acting SW) in the West and Bro. LaSalle (acting JW) in the South.

The Worshipful Master recognized the distinguished Brethren and visitors as listed in the Tiler's register of this date.

He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the Month of July the first order of business would be the reading of the Minutes of our last Stated Meeting and all subequent special meetings. The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.

Bro. Hodges then presented the Treasurer's Report for the period and it was approved as presented subject to the usual audit.

The next order of business was the Report of The Several Committees:

HOUSE: Bro. Alvarez reported Bro. Riefenstein had expended more that Yen 1,400,000 of his personal funds to renovate the caretaker's quarters, and that although Bro. Reifenstein had refused any interest, that the House Committeee was drawing up an agreement to repay the principle at least, and with concurrence of the Brethren Bro. Alvarez requested that it be made a part of the record that Far East Lodge No. 1, along with the other two bodies using the Temple should be obligated to repay Bro. Riefenstein. He also read a letter prepared by W Bro. Swanson addressed to The Masonic Co. Ltd. Hong Kong concerning the Temple property. Bro. Hodges gave a brief explanation and History of the Temple property.

CHARITY: NEG

DeMOLAY: Bro. Otani reported NEG.

PUBLICATIONS: Bro. Hodges apologized and reported FT's to be published soon, and also requested help for distribution. Bro. Holley volunteered to help.

COACHING: Bro. Poll reported Bros. Mahnke and Charles were ready for the proficiency in the First Degree, and requested a special meeting for the 6th of July to hear their proficiency and be passed to the Second Degree, which would permit him to help them with the Second Degree proficiency prior to his departure on the 18 of July. Bro. Alvarez with the consent of the Brethren announced that a special Lodge of Fellowcraft Masons would be held on 6 July, 73.

AUDITING: Bro. Smith reported NEG.

SICK & VISITATION: Bro. Zalewski reported NEG.

JOB'S DAUGHTERS: Bro. Alvarez reported NEG

EDUCATION: MW Bro. Peck reported NEG.

BALLOTING: Secret balloting was held on the below named petitioner and he was elected to receive the Degrees of Masonry in this Lodge:

The following named petition was read to receive the Three Degrees of Masonry in this Lodge.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: NONE.

NEW BUSINESS: The secretary read a Letter from acting Grand Master.

The WM appointed the following named Brethren to the positions indicated

Junior Warden Bro. LaSalle
Treasurer Bro. Campbell
Junior Deacon Bro. Diel

The WM announced that next Wednesday the 11th of July would be a First Degree for Mr. Dunning and Mr. Havens.

The WM then announced that W Bro. Riffle would now give the Third Degree lecture to Bro. HOLLEY, Clifford Carroll, Jr. which had been deferred. W Bro. Riffle also presented the Lambskin Apron to Bro. Holley.

VW Bro. Nishiyama congratulated W Bro. Riffle on his fine Lecture and wished Bro. Riffle much success on his return to the United Stated for retirement. W Bro. Riffle responded with appropriate remarks.

The WM requested the Brethren to rise for a moment of silent prayer for departed Bro. Bruce Mingus, who had passed away on 18 June, 1973.

There being no further business to come before this lodge of Master Masons the WM announced that the Lodge would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, the Lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 21:45 hours, with Bro. Alvarez (acting WM) in the East, Bro. Hodges (acting SW) in the West and Bro. LaSalle (acting JW) in the South.
