Minutes 4 December 1974

The 209th Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F&AM was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 3 Bluff, Yamate-Cho, Yokohama on the 4th day of December, 1974.

A Lodge of Master Masons was opened in due and ancient form at 19:30 hours with MW Bro. Robertson (acting WM) in the East, Bro. Hodges, SW, in the West and Bro. Bartelson, MM, (acting JW) in the South.

The WM recognized the distinguished Brethren as listed in the Tiler's register of this date.

He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of December, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of our last Stated Meeting and all subsequent special Meetings.

The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.

The Treasurer, Bro. Alaback then gave the Treasurer's Report and it was approved as presented.

The next order of business was the Reports of the several committees.

HOUSE: Bro. Hodges reported that at the last committee meeting it had been approved to reimburse himself for funds out of pocket to Bro. Riefenstein, also that funds paid out by Far East Lodge No. 1, to cover repairs to the Temple, would be repaid to Far East Lodge No. 1 thru the House Committee. And, that Bro. Swanson would be leaving for the U.S. in February.

ENTERTAINMENT: NEG.

PUBLICATIONS: Bro. Lambert reported would try to get out next issue on or about the 15th of December, and the next one around the 1st of February, 1975.

COACHING: Bro. Hodges reported Bro. Korman was working, Bro. Ohkawa would not be ready during December, and that we may have a 3rd Degree on 18 December.

AUDIT: NEG.

SICK & VISITATION: Bro. Hodges reported Bro. Bennett's wife apparently alright for the present.

LIFE MEMBERSHIP: W Bro. Williams reported DIEL, Vernon A. as LM No. 154, and Bro, CLARK, Leonard, as LM No. 155.

SIGHT ASSISTANCE: Bro. Alaback reported that he will be contacting the Blind School in Yokohama, and that Bro. Voss had stated that money was available in determining if help can be given or not. List of areas of responsiblities would be in the mail soon and that the age for receiving help was 13 thru 18. MW Bro. Robertson gave brief explanation of what help could be given. Bro. Alaback again asked for help from the Brethren.

APPLICATIONS READ: App1ication for affiliation to become a dual member of Far East Lodge No. 1 was read for the following:

Bro. DeLUNA, Jose Julius, Yokosuka Lodge No. 20

BALLOTING: Secret ballot was held on the below named Petitioner to receive the Degrees of Masonry in this Lodge and he was elected

Mr. VAUGHN, Ralph Wayne

MW Bro. Robertson reminded the Secretary that all applications should be accompanied by the full fee, pictures, etc.

The Secretary read letter concerning the annual Japan Times sponsored Wheelchair Fund. Bro. Hodges moved, Bro. Poll seconded that Far East Lodge No. 1 donate 66,000 Yen thru the Grand Lodge to purchase 2 wheelchairs for this project. Motion Carried.

The Secretary then read a letter concerning Yokota High School's request for assistance in purchasing a movie film, and then moved to donate 9,000 Yen toward this project. It was seconded by Bro. Lambert. Motion carried.

The Secretary then read the bills for the month of November and Bro. Hodges moved and Bro. Bartelson seconded that they be paid. Motion carried.

MW Bro. Robertson then read Art 100, 100a, 100b of the GL Constitution and By-Laws Art 2, Section 1, of the Lodge By-Laws along with edict #8 and also Art 114, 115, 117 and 140 of the G.L. Constitution and By-Laws. He then read the list of elected and appointed Lodge Officers for this year. He then announced that we would now have our annual election for new officers for the coming Masonic year. Written ballot was had and the following Brethren were elected to the offices indicated below:

SEC'TY W Bro. Robert L. Williams

All the Brethren elected accepted and were given a round of applause.

The Brethren were then called briefly free from restraint and at the sound of the gavel Bro. Hodges (Master Elect) assumed the East, along with Bro. Mason (SW Elect) in the West and Bro. Bartelson (JW Elect) in the South.

The WM then read the names of the Brethren to be suspended for NPD on December 31, 1974 as follows;

Bro. Mason and Bro. Bartelson then thanked the Brethren for electing them to their respective position as SW and JW for the ensuing Masonic year.

Bro. Hodges (Master Elect) then made the following appointments as listed below:

J.D. Bro. Matthew Zalewski
S.S. Bro. Edward N. Reyna

Bro. Hodges then thanked MW Bro. Robertson for occupying the East during business and election portions of the meeting and announced that there being no further business to come before the Lodge that we would proceed to close.

Peace and harmony prevailing, this Lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 22:15 hours with Bro. Hodges (Master Elect) in the East, Bro. Mason (SW Elect) in the West, and Bro. Bartelson (JW Elect) in the South.
