Minutes 7 September 1978

The 254th STATED MEETING of Far East Lodge No. 1, F. & A. M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 3 Bluff, Yamate-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 7th day of September 1978.

A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 1930 hours with Worshipful Brother DeLuna, WM, in the East, Brother Barrs, (Acting) SW in the West, and Brother Norman, JW in the South.

The WM recognized the distinguished Brethren (and first time visitors) as listed in the Tiler's register of this date. He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of September, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.

The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.

Next was the Treasurers Report, not given because the Treasurer was not present and he did not send his books.

The Secretary then read the bills for the period.

  1. The air-conditioning bill: Brother Barrs moved, Brother Skinner seconded, and the MOTION CARRIED that the bill be paid.
  2. The Lawyer bill: Brother Barrs moved, Brother Walker seconded and the MOTION CARRIED that the bill be paid.

Next was the report of the several committees:

CHARITY: Negative.

PAY OF MEMBERS: Negative.

REFRESHMENT/ENTERTAINMENT: Brother Walker reminded the Brethren that the picnic will start at 1030 on 10 September 1978. He explained how to find the picnic area.

GM DINNER: No progress.

PM NIGHT: No progress. The WM encouraged the Brethren to attend the picnic.

HOUSE: Get a written report from the WM.

BALLOTING: Forbes and Lamm for Degrees, both elected.

RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: Negative.

CORRESPONDENCE: Negative.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Settle the amount that was budgeted to the Grand Lodge Emergency Fund.

NEW BUSINESS: Next week a First Degree.

FRIENDLY TIPS: WM reported that the FT's are typed but we are having trouble getting them printed. Expect to have item printed by next week.

COACHING: Brother Skinner reported that Brother Thomsen is not ready, it will be after October for Brother Nakayama.

SICK/VISITATION: Brother Norman's wife is in the Yokosuka Naval Hospital. The WM encouraged the Brethren to visit her.

MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: Negative.

AUDIT: Negative.

TEMPLE TRUST FUND: Negative.

REMARKS: Brother Norman stated that he thought it very commendable of Brother Zalewski to put up 20 Million YEN to help the Lodge. The WM agreed. The WM said he and Brother Barrs had paid an official visit to Moriah No. 7 on 30 August 1978 and that the Brethren were impressed by Brother Barrs' presentation of the Masonic Bible.

The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of Master Masons, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this Lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 2100 hours with Worshipful Brother DeLuna, WM, in the East, Brother Barrs, (Acting) SW in the West and Brother Norman JW in the South.
