The 630th Special Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1 was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 3 Bluff, Yamate-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 19th day of September 1979.
A Lodge of Master Masons was opened in due and ancient form at 1900 hours with WB Jack C. Barrs, WM, in the East, Bro. Butch Brown (Acting SW) in the West, and Bro. Millard C. Sketo, JW in the South.
The WM recognized the distinguished Brethren (and first time visitors) as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date.
He then announced that the purpose of this lodge was to accept a special report on the condition of Bro. Matthew Zalewski, our Treasurer. The WM reported that all information available to him, including discussions with Bro. Zalewski's wife, indicated that Brother Zalewski wll not recover and is expected to expire at any time. WB Barrs expressed great sorrow at having to make this report, knowing the deep love we all have for Bro. Matt. He advised that he would keep all informed as news becomes available to him. He announced that should it become necessary and he expressed his fervent hope that it would not be, we would hold a Masonic Funeral should it be the desire of the family, or a Lodge of Sorrow should the great Architect of the Universe see fit to call Bro. Matt from labor and that the Brethren should hold themselves available should it be necessary.
The WM then called the Lodge free from restraint for the purpose of conducting a lodge of Masonic Education.
At the sound of the Gavel in the East labor was resumed.
Bro. Brown extended fraternal greetings from the WM and Brethren of Yokosuka Lodge No. 20, which was reciprocated by WB Barrs.
Peace and harmony prevailing the Lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 20:45 hours with WB Barrs, WM in the East, Bro. Brown (Acting SW) in the West, and Bro. Sketo, SW, (Acting JW) in the South.
(There were 9 Brethren present.)
