Minutes 8 October 1980

The 279th Stated meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F.&A.M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 3 Bluff, Yamate-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 8th day of October 1980.

A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 1930 hours with WB Katagiri, WM in the East, Br Ohashi, SW (acting) in the West,and Br LaSalle, JW (acting) in the South.

The WM recognized the distinguished Brethren and first time visitors present as listed in the Tiler's register of this date. He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of October, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of our last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings. Before reading the minutes,the Secretary stated that this meeting was being held on the second Wednesday rather than the first by Special Dispensation since the Lodge was unable to open due to lack of attendance of the required number of members on the regular night. Said Dispensation being attached to these minutes. The Secretary then read the minutes and they were approved as read.

Next the Treasurer's report was given by MWB Yamada. A corrected copy of the financial statement read in the month of September for the first half of this year was also distributed. The correction involved establishing the value of the Temple Trust Fund. WB Barrs moved and WB Hodges seconded that the Treasurer's report be accepted as read subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED.

The Secretary then read the bills for the month of September and WB Hodges moved and MWB Nishiyama seconded that we pay our bills. MOTION CARRIED.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

CHARITY: Negative.

REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: Negative.

FRIENDLY TIPS: WB Hodges stated that the inputs had been received by him and that he would compile the next edition and get it to the printers soon.

COACHING: No progress was reported on the several EAs.

SICK AND VISITATION: WB Barrs reported that Br Clark's family had been ill recently and that was why he was absent. Br Ohashi commented that he had been to see MWB Robbie recently and that he was sure that MWB Robbie would like the Brethren to visit as often as they could. Several Brethren said they would go by to see Br Robbie in the near future.

MASONIC EDUCATION: MWB Yamada read a letter concerning the upcoming Grand Lodge workshop and urged those who could to attend. WB Hodges discussed the possibility of getting together on the 22nd of October to work on preparing some officers for elective positions in December.

AUDIT: The Treasurer's report has been examined and concurred in by the Audit Committee. Members indicated that they would try to meet again soon to try and work out other details concerning last years finances.

INVESTMENT: The WM delegated to MWB Nishiyama the responsibility of getting together with members of the committee to further discuss the Lodge Investments. He asked that the conimitte return some final comments by the December Stated Meeting.

TEMPLE: The WM reported that the court action had been postponed until the 4th of Nov. at MHL's request. He also stated that the resolution of our September Stated meeting had been communicated to LSE 640 and others concerned and that our position would now be to wait and see what counter proposals or further information would be forthcoming. WB Hodges stated that he had given to Br Swanson of the MHL certain financial information to assist in resolving any tax problems concerning the property.

There was no balloting and no further petitions were received.

CORRESPONDENCE

NEW BUSINESS: The WM reminded the brethren that the Installation would be held on Dec 13th. MWB Quick will be the Installing Officer and WB Barrs will be the Master of Ceremonies. The Installation will be open and visitors are encouraged. The WM asked WB Hodges to arrange for the Banquet and Br Ohashi to oversee the Lodge arrangements.

There being no further business to come before this Lodge of MMs,the Lodge was closed in ritualistic form at 2100 hours with WB Katagiri in the East, Br Ohashi in the West and Br LaSalle in the South.
