Minutes 1 April 1981

The 285th STATED MEETING of Far East Lodge No. 1, F. & A. H. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 3 Bluff, Yamate-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 1st day of April 1981.

A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 1930 hours with WB Katagiri PM, WM in the East, Bro. Ohashi, SW in the West, and WB Brown WM #20, (Acting) JW in the South.

WB Katagiri raised the Lodge for a moment of silent prayer in memory of MWB Floyd J. Robertson, PGM, who died on 21 March 1981.

The WM recognized the distinguished brethren as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date. He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of April 1981, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last stated meeting and all subsequent special meetings.

The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.

Next was the Treasurer's Report given by MWB Yamada. It was moved by WB Hodges and seconded by WB Brown that the Treasurer's Report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED

The Secretary announced that there were no bills for the period.

WB Hodges moved and MWB Yamada seconded a motion that the Secretary be permitted to purchase 1 dozen new lambskin aprons. MOTION CARRIED

Next was the report of the several committees:

CHARITY: WB Katagiri submitted a negative report

SICK AND VISITATION: Bro. Ohashi submitted a negative report.

REFRESHMENT/ENTERTAINMENT: WB Katagiri announced that our installation will be held on 12 December 1981 and that he intends to ask Bro. LaSalle to commence preparations and planning as soon as Bro. LaSalle returns. He further stated that he wants to explore using Bro. Weinberg's restaurant in downtown Yokohama for our banquet if at all possible.

FRIENDLY TIPS: WB Katagiri reminded Bro. Ohashi that the due date for the next issues of the FTs is 20 April 1981. Bro. Ohashi responded and advised that the due date was firmly fixed in his mind and that his input would he ready by that time.

COACHING: WB Brown announced that Bro. Baluyut will probably be ready in 2-3 weeks. WB Katagiri asked Bro. Dodd if he would be prepared to take the SD part, including the Middle Chamber Lecture, in the next 2nd degree. Bro. Dodd agreed to undertake the effort. WB Katagiri also announced that none of our Japanese EAs are ready for their proficiency.

MASONIC EDUCAT1ON/LODGE HISTORY: Negative report.

AUDIT: Negative report.

INVESTMENT: WB Katagiri reported that our Life Membership ICD with Mitsubishi Bank has been split into two parts: one part in the amount of which is the original amount belonging to the Life Membership Fund and the other part in the amount of which is the interest earned to date on the original investment. The Principal has ben reinvested in one year ICD at interest per annum. The Interest money has been and will continue to be reinvested on a month to month basis at prevailing interest rates so as to be available to the Lodge in the case of need.

HOUSE: WB Katagiri called the Lodge briefly free from restraint and at the sound of the gavel in the East he proceeded to give the Brethren his evaluation of the present and future situation of the Temple and property as outlined in Enclosure (1) hereto. At the conclusion of WB Katagiri's report WB Hodges moved and MWB Yamada seconded the motion attached hereto as Enclosure (2) hereto. After considerable discussion by all the Brethren present the motion was unanimously APPROVED.

WB Katagiri concluded this portion of the meeting by advising the Brethren that he would move forward repaidly to carry out their instructions.

BALLOTTING: None.

RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: None.

CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read several pieces of correspondence from the Brethren and also the Grand Lodge Bulletin dated March 20, 1981, as well as a letter from the Grand Secretary announcing the death of MWB Floyd J. Robertson, PGM, instructing all lodges to drape their Charter for a period of 30 days as a tribute of love and affection.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None.

NEW BUSINESS: WB Katagiri announced that WB Phil Hunt has been appointed Grand Lodge Inspector for Far East Lodge No. 1 for the ensuing Masonic year.

WB Brown invited the Brethren and their wives to combine with Yokosuka Lodge No. 20 in their planned social events during the year as may be announced from time to time.

The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of Master Masons, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 2150 hours with WB Katagiri, PM, WM in the East, Bro. Ohashi, SW in the West, and WB Brown, WM #20, (Acting) JW in the South.
