Minutes 1 July 1981

The 288th STATED MEETING of Far East Lodge No. 1, F. & A. M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 3 Bluff, Yamate-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 1st day of July 1981.

A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 1940 hours with Bro. Ohashi, SW, Acting WM in the East, MWB Nishiyama, PGM, Acting SW in the West, and Bro. Otani, Tiler, Acting JW in the South.

The WM announced the death of Bro. Alan ZAHN and raised the lodge for prayer.

The WM recognized the distinguished brethren as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date. He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of July 1981, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last stated meeting and all subsequent special meetings.

The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.

Next was the Treasurer's Report given by MWB Yamada. It was moved by MWB Yamada and seconded by WB Hodges that the Treasurer's Report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED

The Secretary than read the bills for the period and WB Hodges moved and Bro. Dodd seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED

Next was the report of the several committees:

CHARITY: A negative report was submitted.

SICK AND VISITATION: Bro. Ohashi reported that he has heard nothing from Mrs. Robertson since MWB Robertson's death. It is hoped that Mrs. Robertson will be returning to Japan after she completes settling the estate so that the G/L and our Lodge might plan suitable services for MWB Robertson.

REFRESHMENT/ENTERTAINMENT: Bro. Ohashi acknowledges the responsibility for planning for the Grand Master's Chinese Dinner in September as well as the installation of officers in December together with Bro. LaSalle. He assured the Brethren that suitable arrangements will be made and that additional details will be announced as soon as plans have been firmed up.

FRIENDLY TIPS: WB Hodges reported that he would have a draft of the next issue of the FT ready by the next stated meeting for review by all those concerned as instructed by WB Katagiri.

COACHING: WB Hodges reported that Bro. Balyut is progressing on his 2° proficiency. MWB Yamada reported that our Japanese EAs are making slow progress.

MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: MWB Yamada reported that NHK had presented a thrity-minute Q and A session on TV about 2 weeks ago. The program was very favorable towards the Craft. Video tape was taken by Bro. Ando. Also video tape of the cornerstone laying ceremony was produced by TV Asahi and duplicated by WB Ando. Both tapes are available for viewing at Grand Lodge.

AUDIT: MWB Nishiyama reported that he has completed his audit and was pleased to report that all financial records are complete and in good condition with no discrepancies noted.

INVESTMENT: MWB Nishiyama advised that he has completed his evaluation of the proposed investment policy for the Lodge and will present his findings to WB Katagiri upon his return.

HOUSE: WB Hodges advised that Lodge Star in the East No. 640, SC, has paid their assessment and that as soon as he receives assessment from OES, Chapter No. 2, he would be able to pay the property taxes for the first two quarters of 1982 (FY), a total of ¥908,100 plus ¥8,100 penalty for being late with the 1st Quarter payment. Bro. Ohashi reported that WB Katagiri has been advised by our lawyer that he expects to receive an additional ¥1,000,000 as a success fee. WB Katagiri expects to receive a letter from the lawyer to this effect and will present it to the bodies involved when received.

BALLOTTING: None.

RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: The Secretary read a request for Demit form WB William H. Fogle. His dues having been paid in full for 1981 and there being no objections, Bro. Ohashi ordered the Demit granted.

CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read several pieces of correspondence from the Brethren. Not being in receipt of the Grand Lodge Bulletin for the previous month none was read nor was any other Grand Lodge correspondence available.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Bro. Ohashi advised that G/L is most anxious to be advised of the number of people who will be attending the G/L Dedication and Banquet. A head count was taken and the Secretary instructed to forward the names of those attending to G/L as quickly as possible.

NEW BUSINESS: None.

The WM than announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of Master Masons, we would proceed to close. Peace and Harmony prevailing, this lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 2110 hours with Bro. Ohashi, SW, Acting WM in the East, MWB Nishiyama, PGM, Acting SW in the West, and Bro. Otani, Tiler, Acting JW in the South.
