Minutes 7 October 1981

The 290th STATED MEETING of Far East Lodge No. 1, F. & A. M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 3 Bluff, Yamate-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 7th day of October 1981.

A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 1935 hours with WB Katagiri, PM, WM in the East, Bro. Ohashi, SW in the West, and WB Hunt, PM, Acting JW in the South.

The WM recognized the distinguished brethren as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date. He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of October 1981, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last stated meeting and all subsequent special meetings.

WB Katagiri read the minutes and they were approved as read.

Next was the Treasurer's Report given by MWB Yamada. It was moved by MWB Yamada and seconded by Bro. Ohashi that the Treasurer's Report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED

WB Katagiri then read the bills for the period and various Brethren moved and seconded for each bill that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED

Next was the report of the several committees:

CHARITY: WB Katagiri reported negative.

SICK AND VISITATION: WB Katagiri reported that although WB Hodges had been seriously ill he is recovering fast now, and that MWB Nishiyama has been hospitalized for a couple of weeks. He also reported that MWB Nishiyama seems to be not serious.

REFRESHMENT/ENTERTAINMENT: Bro. Ohashi reported that the Chinese Dinner held in September for the GM was successful. WB Katagiri reminded that the Installation Banquet will be held on December 12, 1981.

FRIENDLY TIPS: Negative report submitted by WB Katagiri, due to illness of WB Hodges.

COACHING: WB Katagiri submitted a negative report.

MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: MWB Yamada reported negative.

AUDIT: WB Katagiri submitted a negative report.

INVESTMENT: WB Katagiri submitted a negative report on behalf of MWB Nishiyama.

HOUSE: The Lodge approved the bill to pay ¥500,000 to Mr. Kogo, a lawyer, employed to solve the Temple issue with Masonic Hall Limited on the report submitted by WB Katagiri. WB Katagiri commented that he was pleased to put a period for the issue.

BALLOTTING: Negative.

RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: Negative.

CORRESPONDENCE: Grand Lodge Bulletins for August and September 1981 and the minutes of the Executive Committee of the GL held on September 26 were read.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None.

NEW BUSINESS:

  1. The Memorial Service for Bro. Kauka is now scheduled for 17:00 hours on November 14, Saturday. The following assignments were given to the Brethren concerned.
    WM: WB Katagiri
    SW: Bro. Ohashi
    JW: WB Nakano
    Chaplain: Bro. Dodd
    Orator: MWB Yamada
  2. Article II of the By-Laws and Articles 100, 100a and 100b of the Constitution were read for Brethren by WB Katagiri.
  3. A letter request to confirm oral approval of the Grand Lodge for a Dispensation to hold the Stated Meeting by six brethren, will be submitted to the Grand Master.

The WM than announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of Master Masons, we would proceed to close. Peace and Harmony prevailing, this lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 2120 hours with WB Katagiri, PM, WM in the East, Bro. Ohashi, SW in the West, and MWB Yamada, Acting JW in the South.
