The 298th STATED MEETING of Far East Lodge No. 1, F. & A. M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 3 Bluff, Yamate-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 6th day of October 1982.
A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 2018 hours with Bro. LaSalle, SW, Acting WM in the East, Bro. Moore, MM, Acting SW in the West, and Bro. Otani, JW in the South.
The WM raised the lodge for a moment of silent prayer on behalf of the death of Bro. James Murphy, who passed away on 14 September 1982. After prayer, he ordered the lodge draped for a period of 30 days in honor of Bro. Murphy.
The WM recognized the distinguished brethren as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date. He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of October 1982, the next order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last stated meeting and all subsequent special meetings.
The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.
Next was the Treasurer's Report given by MWB Yamada. It was moved by MWB Yamada and seconded by Bro. Moore that the Treasurer's Report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED
There were no bills for the period.
Next was the report of the several committees:
CHARITY: A negative report was submitted on behalf of the chairman.
SICK AND VISITATION: MWB Yamada reported that MWB Nishiyama is doing good but still has a problem with his throat.
REFRESHMENT/ENTERTAINMENT: The WM announced that the GM Chinese Dinner will be held on 30 October 1982 at a place and time to be announced. Bro. Otani and Bro. Moore are to coordinate this effort and are to inform all concerned of the detials when known. Dinner will probably start on/about 1800 hours and cost will hopefully be not more that ¥4,000 per person. As this dinner is being jointly sponsored by Yokosuka #20, it is hoped that about 40 people will attend.
FRIENDLY TIPS: Bro. LaSalle reported that WB Hodges hopes to have the next issue published in early October.
COACHING: Bro. LaSalle reported that Bro. Pearson is making progress and may be ready for his first degree proficinecy in 2 weeks or o/a 20 October 1982.
MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: MWB Yamada reported that the Grand Lodge will hold a special meeting on Masonic Education sometime near the end of October 1982.
AUDIT: Negative report.
INVESTMENT: MWB Yamada reported that our 10 year telephone bond had recently matured adn that the lodge had realized a return of ¥1,653,450 income on an investment of just under ¥2M. He requested permission to purchase a bond from Merril, Lynch Corp at 8% per annum for a 12-year period. Approval was granted. Amount invested was ¥3,634,816.
HOUSE: It was informally indicated that MHL may be finalizing purchase of the 5th floor of a new building at Negishi Station, a portion of which will become the new Masonic Facility for Masons in Yokohama.
BALLOTTING: None.
RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: None.
CORRESPONDENCE: The GL Bulletins for August and September 1982, together with several other pieces of other correspondence, were read by the Acting Secretary.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Bro. Robert A. Moore was duly obligated a dual member of this lodge by Bro. LaSalle. MWB Yamada attended the installation and banquet for Sinim Lodge as the representative of Far East Lodge No. 1. Bro. LaSalle then read Article II, Sections 1 and 2 of the Lodge By-Laws and Articles 100, 100a and 100b of the Constitution of the Grand Lodge.
NEW BUSINESS: None.
As there were only six members present, MWB H. Onishi, Grand Master, granted dispensation to open lodge and conduct business in accordance with Article 36 of the Constitution of the Grand Lodge.
The WM then announced that being no further business to come before this Lodge of Master Masons, he would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this lodge was closed at 2130 hours with Bro. LaSalle, SW, Acting WM in the East, Bro. Moore, MM, Acting SW in the West, and Bro. Otani, JW in the South.
