Minutes 3 August 1983

The 306th Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F. & A. M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 31, Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 3rd day of August 1983.

A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 1950 hours with WB LaSalle, WM in the East, Bro. Norman, JD. (Acting) SW in the West, and MWB Nishiyama, CH (Acting) JW in the South.

The WM recognized the Distinguished Brethren as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date. He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of August 1983, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.

The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.

Next was the Treasurer's Report given by MWB Yamada. It was moved by MWB Yamada and seconded by WB Hodges that the Treasurer's report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED

The Secretary then read the bills for the period and WB Hodges moved and MWB Yamada seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED

Next was the report of the several committees:

CHARITY: WB LaSalle submitted a negative report.

SICK AND VISITATION: WB Hodges reported that MWB Nishiyama is again spending some time in the hospital. However, as is noted he is able to attend Lodge for which we are all grateful. All in attendance requested MWB Nishiyama to please keep us informed of his condition and needs.

REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: Bro. Ohashi submitted a negative report.

FRIENDLY TIPS: WB Hodges reported on that the Mar-Jun 1983 issue has been published and will be mailed within the next few days.

COACHING: WB LaSalle reported that Bro. Pearson has made no substantial progress since the last stated meeting.

MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: MWB Nishiyama submitted a negative report.

AUDIT: Bro. Ohashi submitted a negative report.

INVESTMENT: MWB Yamada distributed the semi-annual financial statement (copy attached) and made a comprehensive report on financial matters. It was determined that the lodge should probably make some additional investments. The nature and details of the investment and transfer of funds to be handled by the Investment Committee and reported to the lodge when accomplished.

HOUSE: WB Hodges submitted a negative.

BALLOTTING: None.

RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: Bro. Herbert Lyons Waldrop submitted a petition for Demit which was duly granted by the Worshipful Master.

CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary the GL Bulletin datd Jul 20 1983; the GM's proclamation proclaiming Sep 83 as "GLOJ VISITATION MONTH": RWB Ditto's letter dated 30 Jun 83; Bro. Waldrop's letter requesting Demit, and exerpts from 'the GL Executive Committee Minutes of Jun 25, 1983.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: WB LaSalle reported there will be no Bon-Odori in Yokohama this year therefore it will not be possible for the lodge to have a booth. Concerning PM Night, GM Dinner and Anniversary Bro. Norman moved and Bro. Ohashi seconded a motion that we have a dinner for these three events on our anniversary date. After some discussion WB Hodges moved that the motion be modified to eliminate the words "Past Master's Night" and call the affair our "Annual GM's Chinese Dinner and Lodge Anniversary". This motion was seconded by MWB Yamada. WB Hodges' motion carried while Bro. Norman's motion was defeated, with the help of Bro. Norman. It was recommended that we try to have this event on/or about 28/29 October 1983.

NEW BUSINESS: None.

The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of MMs, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this Lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 2115 hours with WB LaSalle, WM in the East, Bro. Norman, JD, (Acting) SW in the West, and MWB Nishiyama, CH (Acting) JW in the South.
