The 307th Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F. & A. M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 31, Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 5th day of October 1983.
A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 1950 hours with Bro. Otani, SW, (Acting) WM in the East, Bro. Ohashi, MA. (Acting) SW in the West, and MWB Nishiyama, CH (Acting) JW in the South.
The WM recognized the Distinguished Brethren as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date.
He then raised the Lodge for silent prayer in memory of Bro. John Braxten Barr, who passed away 18 Sep 1983. He further ordered that the Lodge be draped for 30 days in memory of Bro. Barr.
He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of October 1983, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.
The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.
Next was the Treasurer's Report given by MWB Yamada. It was moved by MWB Yamada and seconded by WB Hodges that the Treasurer's report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED
The Secretary then read the bills for the period and WB Hodges moved and MWB Yamada seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED
Next was the report of the several committees:
CHARITY: Brother Otani submitted a negative report.
SICK AND VISITATION: WB Hodges was pleased to submit a negative.
REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: Bro. Ohashi reported on the arrangements for the GM's Annual Dinner and Lodge's 35th Anniversary Dinner, to be held simultaneously on 29 October 1983.
FRIENDLY TIPS: WB Hodges reported that the next issue of the FT's would be going to the typewriter soon with the inetntion of completing the next issue by the end of October 1983.
COACHING: MWB Yamada submitted a negative report.
MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: MWB Nishiyama submitted a negative report.
AUDIT: A negative report was submitted.
INVESTMENT: MWB Nishiyama submitted a negative report.
HOUSE: WB Hodges reported under Bills for the Period that FE#1's 50% share of the cost of utilities for the period August 82 though August 83 was just under ¥170,000. He also reported to the Brethren that Masonic Hall Ltd. is paying a monthly rental of ¥300,000 for the use of this room.
BALLOTTING: None.
RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: By letter dated 4 Sept 1983, WB Stanley M. Sagara, PM, requested a Demit which was duly granted by the WB; WB Sagara being paid up in his dues and there being no reason why his petition for Demit should be denied.
CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read the GL Monthly Bulletins for Aug/Sep 83; a letter from the GL Senior Grand Lecturer; several pieces of correspondence from Brethren of the Lodge; and a letter from the Chairman of the GL Charity Commitee — after which WB Hodges moved and MWB Yamada seconded a motion that the Lodge donate ¥50,000 to the GL Emergency Relief Fund. MOTION CARRIED
UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None.
NEW BUSINESS: At the request of the Acting WM, WB Hodges read Article II, Sections 1 and 2 of the Lodge By-Laws and Articles 100, 100a, and 100b of the Constitution of the Grand Lodge.
The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of MMs, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this Lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 2130 hours with Bro. Otani, SW, (Acting) WM in the East, Bro. Ohashi, MA. (Acting) SW in the West, and MWB Nishiyama, CH (Acting) JW in the South.
