Minutes 12 May 1984

The 314th Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F. & A. M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 31, Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 12th day of May 1984.

A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 1425 hours with Bro. Otani, WM in the East, Bro. Norman, SW in the West, and MWB Nishiyama, CH, (Acting) JW in the South.

WB Otani raised the Lodge for a moment of silent prayer on behalf of Brother Masamichi Mamiya who passed away on 13 Feb 1984.

The WM recognized the Distinguished Brethren as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date. He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of May 1984, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.

The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.

Next was the Treasurer's Report given by MWB Yamada. It was moved by MWB Yamada and seconded by WB Hodges that the Treasurer's report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED

The Secretary then read the bills for the period and WB Hodges moved and MWB Yamada seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED

Next was the report of the several committees:

CHARITY: WB Hodges read a letter from the Torii Oasis Shrine Clubs of Japan undated announcing the date of the Annual Shrine Ceremonial and requesting donations for advertisement in the Ceremonial Booklet. He then moved and MWB Nishiyama seconded a motion that the lodge purchase a half page advertisement at the cost of ¥35,000. MOTION CARRIED

SICK AND VISITATION: WB Hodges was pleased to submit a negative report.

REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: Bro. Ohashi submitted a negative report.

FRIENDLY TIPS: WB Hodges submitted a negative report.

COACHING: WB Hodges submitted a negative report.

MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: MWB Nishiyama submitted a negative report.

AUDIT: Bro. Norman submitted a negative report.

INVESTMENT: MWB Yamada reported that one of our bonds is scheduled to mature in about 2 months and that there is presently an uninvested amount of money being held at GL. He has instructed GL to reinvest all funds upon maturity.

HOUSE: WB Hodges reported that our share of the utility costs for the period September thru December was almost ¥60,000.

BALLOTTING: By secret ballot, Brother William J. Livernois was restored to full standing in this lodge.

RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: While there were no petitions, the Secretary advised that he anticipated receiving soon a Petition for Restoration from Brother Frank R. Copeland, Jr., who was suspended for NPD on 31 December 1981.

CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read two letters from the GM under date of April 21 (approval of By-Laws Amendment) and April 19 (SD #6-84); a letter of introduction from the SGL under date of April 21 introducing our GL Inspector, WB Tommy R. Brown, Jr.; the GL Bulletin dated April 20, 1984 and a letter from WB William "Jim" LaSalle.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: WB Otani reported tha the GM has a very full schedule and instructed the Secretary to write him a letter requesting that he identify a date when he can attend our annual GM Chinese Dinner. MWB Yamada reported that the Children's Festival will be on 27 May and that he will be unable to attend. WB Otani advised that he will attend the Festival.

NEW BUSINESS: Bro. Norman reported that he and his wife will be departing in October 1984 for duty in the United States.

The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of MMs, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this Lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 1520 hours with Bro. Otani, WM in the East, Bro. Norman, SW in the West, and MWB Nishiyama, CH, (Acting) JW in the South.
