Minutes 14 July 1984

The 316th Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F. & A. M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 31, Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 14th day of July 1984.

A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 1450 hours with Bro. Otani, WM in the East, Bro. Norman, SW in the West, and MWB Nishiyama, CH, (Acting) JW in the South.

Immediately after opening, WB Otani raised the lodge for prayer on behalf of our departed Brethren, Gustaf W. Holmelin and Roar J. Bowman, who died on 05/23/84 and 06/07/84 respectively. WB Otani also ordered the lodge draped for a period of 30 days in remembrance.

The WM recognized the Distinguished Brethren as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date. He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of July 1984, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.

The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.

Next was the Treasurer's Report given by MWB Yamada. It was moved by MWB Yamada and seconded by WB Hodges that the Treasurer's report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED

The Secretary then read the bills for the period and WB Hodges moved and MWB Nishiyama seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED

Next was the report of the several committees:

CHARITY: WB Hodges was pleased to report that there had been no calls for charity since the last meeting.

SICK AND VISITATION: WB Hodges was pleased to submit a negative report in so far as the members are concerned but was less pleased to report that Mrs. Nagumo is in the hospital. It is suppose to be nothing serious. However, he requested that WB Otani investigate and if appropriate, cause a suitable gift be sent on behalf of the lodge.

REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: No report due to the absence of Bro. Ohashi.

FRIENDLY TIPS: WB Hodges submitted a negative.

COACHING: WB Hodges submitted a negative.

MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: MWB Yamada submitted a negative.

AUDIT: Bro. Norman submitted a negative.

INVESTMENT: MWB Yamada reported on the status of investment as per the attached Financial Statement for period 01 January thru 30 June 1984, which is hereby made a part of these minutes by attachment hereto.

HOUSE: WB Hodges submitted a negative.

BALLOTTING: WB Hodges reported that there are no petitions to be ballotted.

RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: WB Hodges reported that no petitions have been received.

CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read the GL Bulletin of June 20, two letters from the GM and one letter from the GL of California. He also read excerpts from the GL Executive Committee Minutes of June 21 1984.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: WB Otani announced that the planning for the GM Chinese Dinner will be conducted at the August Stated Meeting.

NEW BUSINESS: WB Otani announced that Honshu #8 is planning an outdoor 3rd degree September 84 which is our Stated Meeting date. He indicated that we will request a special dispensation to postpone our Stated meeting until the 15th of September. However the Secretary reported that the GL Executive Committee Minutes indicated that Honshu held the outdoor degree on the 8th of July. Because of this discrepancy in dates WB Otani stated that the matter will be clarified at our August meeting.

The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of MMs, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this Lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 1537 hours with Bro. Otani, WM in the East, Bro. Norman, SW in the West, and MWB Nishiyama, CH, (Acting) JW in the South.
