Minutes 22 December 1984

The 319th Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F. & A. M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 31, Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 22nd day of December 1984.

A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 1517 hours with Bro. Otani, WM in the East, Bro. Ohashi, JW, (Acting) SW in the West, and MWB Nishiyama, CH, (Acting) JW in the South.

Immediately after opening WB Otani raised the lodge for prayer on behalf of our departed Brethren, Alva R. Hall and Earl A. Harris. He then ordered the lodge draped for 30 days in remembrance.

The WM recognized the Distinguished Brethren as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date. He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of December 1984, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.

The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.

Next was the Treasurer's Report given by MWB Yamada. It was moved by MWB Yamada and seconded by WB Hodges that the Treasurer's report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED

The Secretary then read the bills for the period and WB Hodges moved and MWB Nishiyama seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED

Next was the report of the several committees:

CHARITY: WB Hodges was pleased to announce that there had been no calls of charity since the last stated meeting.

SICK AND VISITATION: WB Hodges was pleased to submit a negative. However MWB Nishiyama advised that he had received a letter from Bro. John L. Courtner indicating that Brother Courtner had his right lung removed. The Secretary was instructed to write Brother Courtner a letter.

REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: Bro. Ohashi submitted his report on the Grand Master's Dinner, a copy of which is attached as enclosure (1) hereto.

FRIENDLY TIPS: WB Hodges submitted a negative.

COACHING: WB Hodges and MWB Yamada submitted a negative.

MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: MWB Yamada submitted a negative.

AUDIT: No report.

INVESTMENT: MWB Yamada submitted a negative.

HOUSE: WB Hodges submitted a negative.

BALLOTTING: The Secretary reported that no ballotting was to be had.

RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: Bro. Joseph Haik's request for restoration as an EA was read and approved by WB Otani. Bro. David L. Somerville's request for restoration was read and WB Otani ordered it to lay over until the January 1985 Stated Meeting. Bro. Richard Dee Malcomson's request for Demit was approved by WB Otani.

CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read the GL Bulletin's dated October and November 20, 1984. He read Sagamihara 13's and Kokusai No 15's letter concerning their installation.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: WB Otani instructed that Articles 100, 100a and 100b of the GL Constitution and Article II, Sections 1 and 2 of the lodge By-Laws be read. WB Hodges announced that Bro. Archie H. Clark will be suspended for non-payment of dues unless his dues are received prior to midnight 31 December.

NEW BUSINESS: WB Otani announced the elections for the 1985 Masonic year would be held and the following Brethren were elected to the positions indicated:

Brother Ohashi appointed Brothers Onishi, Nakano and Otani to the Audit Committee. He then announced that due to the lateness of the hours, Appointed Officer positions and Committee appointments would be made at the January 85 Stated Meeting. WB Otani then announced that the Installation of Officers would be held on 09 February 1985 and that MB Yoshio Yamada and WB Tommy R. Brown, PM, GL Inspector, would be the installing officers. It was tentatively decided to have the banquet at the Negishi Club. WB Hodges to make initial arrangements and report at the stated meeting.

The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of MMs, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this Lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 1645 hours with Bro. Otani, WM in the East, Bro. Ohashi, JW, (Acting) SW in the West, and MWB Nishiyama, CH, (Acting) JW in the South.
