Minutes 12 January 1985

The 320th Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F. & A. M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 31, Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 12th day of January 1985.

A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 1455 hours with Bro. Otani, WM in the East, Bro. Ohashi, JW, (Acting) SW in the West, and MWB Nishiyama, CH, (Acting) JW in the South.

After the Secretary read the letter, WB Otani raised the lodge for a moment of silent prayer in remembrance of RWB Lassleben, PSGW.

The WM recognized the Distinguished Brethren as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date. He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of January 1985, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.

The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.

Next was the Treasurer's Report given by MWB Yamada. It was moved by MWB Yamada and seconded by WB Hodges that the Treasurer's report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED

The Secretary then read the bills for the period and WB Hodges moved and MWB Nishiyama seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED

Next was the report of the several committees:

CHARITY: WB Hodges was pleased to submit a negative.

SICK AND VISITATION: WB Hodges was pleased to submit a negative.

REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: WB Hodges explained the arrangements for the Installation Banquet which was approved by WB Otani.

FRIENDLY TIPS: WB Hodges reported that as soon as he gets Bro. Ohashi's message from the East, he is prepared to publish the next edition of the FT's. Bro. Ohashi advised that he would have his message ready as soon as possible.

COACHING: MWB Yamada and WB Hodges submitted a negative.

MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: MWB Yamada submitted a negative and then read a letter from Tokyo Yuai #11 which provides details of their installation.

AUDIT: No report.

INVESTMENT: MWB Yamada submitted a negative.

HOUSE: WB Hodges submitted a negative.

BALLOTTING: By secret written ballot, the Brethren restored Brother David L. Sommerville to good standing in the lodge.

RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: The Secretary read a petition for Restoration from Brother George J. King. WB Otani then read a petition for the degrees of Masonry from Mr. Jun Nishiyama, the second son of our beloved MWB Shigeru Nishiyama. After which WB Otani ordered the petitions to run their proper course.

CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read the following correspondence: the GL Bulletin of Dec 20, 1984, Tokyo Masonic Lodge No. 2's letter concerning their installation and the Grand Secretary's letter concerning Historical and Charity reports.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Bro. Ohashi, WM elect, appointed the following members to the offices indicated for the ensuing Masonic Year:

  3. SD: WB Hisateru Nakano, PM
  4. JD: Bro. Edward M. Reyna
  5. SS: Bro. Toshio Ozaki

NEW BUSINESS: WB Otani thanked RWB Freddie Butler, reigning Master of Lodge Star in the East No. 640 SC, and his delegation for their official visitation to our lodge and requested RWB Butler to address the lodge. After appropriate remarks, RWB Butler invited WB Otani and the members to attend their meeting on 12 February 1985 at which Ill. Bro. Joe A. Diele will speak on the trials and tribulations of establishing the new Tokyo Masonic Center. His talk promises to be most interesting and all are invited to attend.

The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of MMs, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this Lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 1550 hours with WB Otani, WM in the East, Bro. Ohashi, JW, (Acting) SW in the West, and MWB Nishiyama, CH, (Acting) JW in the South.
