Minutes 14 September 1985

The 327th Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F. & A. M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 31, Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 14th day of September 1985.

A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 1410 hours with WB Ohashi, WM in the East, VWB Tsuji, PM, (Acting) SW in the West, and WB Otani, JW in the South.

The WM recognized the Distinguished Brethren (and first time visitors) as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date.

The WM then called the lodge free from restraint for the purpose of preparing to receive the GM. At the sound of the gavel in the East, MWB Carl L. Potts, GM of Masons in Japan and his party were received with Grand Honors.

He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of September 1985, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.

The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.

Next was the Treasurer's Report given by MWB Yamada. It was moved by MWB Yamada and seconded by WB Hodges that the Treasurer's report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED

The Secretary then read the bills for the period and WB Hodges moved and MWB Nishiyama seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED

Next was the report of the several committees:

CHARITY: WB Hodges was pleased to submit a negative.

SICK AND VISITATION: WB Hodges submitted a grateful negative.

REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: WB Otani submitted a negative.

FRIENDLY TIPS: WB Hodges reported that an issue of the FTs was recently mailed to the Brethren together with an issue of the Masonic Shimbun.

COACHING: MWB Yamada and WB Hodges submitted a negative. WB Ohashi appointed himself and WB Hodges to be the coaches for Mr. Yamaguchj upon completion of his initiation.

MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: MWB Nishiyama/Yamada submitted a negative.

AUDIT: No report required.

INVESTMENT: MWB Yamada submitted a negative.

HOUSE: WB Hodges submitted a negative.

BALLOTTING: None.

RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: None.

CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read the GL Bulletins for the months of July and August 1985.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: MWB Nishiyama reported that his son Jun is ready for initiation. He requested that he be permitted to sit in the East for the initiation. WB Ohashi announced that Mr. Jun Nishiyama will be initiated at our October 1985 Stated Meeting.

NEW BUSINESS: MWB Yamada reported the details of the upcoming cornerstone laying ceremony for the new temple.

REMARKS: WB Patrick J McQuade, WM of The Cygnet Lodge #109 of Western Australia conveyed his thoughts and impressions in a most warm, friendly and sincere manner. WB Ohashi thanked the visiting Brethren, especially those who assisted in the degree conferral today.

At the sound of the gavel in the East, labor in this lodge of MMs was suspended and a lodge of EAMs was opened. The WM announced that this lodge of EAs had convened for the purpose of conferring the First Degree of Masonry on the following named candidate:

MR. TAKEAKI YAMAGUCHI

The above named candidate was obligated as an Entered Apprentice Mason with WB Ohashi, WM, in the East, VWB Tsuji, PM, Acting SW, in the West, and WB Otani, JW, in the South.

The lodge was then called briefly free from restraint for the purpose of congratulating our newly obligated Brother. At the sound of the gavel in the East, Bro. Yamaguchi was escorted from the lodge and labors in this lodge of EAMs was closed and labors in a lodge of MMs resumed.

The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of MMs, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this Lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 1725 hours with WB Ohashi, WM in the East, VWB Tsuji, PM, (Acting) SW in the West, and WB Otani, JW in the South.

(There were 9 Brethren present plus the candidate of which 6 were members of this lodge.)
