The 329th Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F. & A. M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 250, Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 15th day of February 1986.
A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 1515 hours with WB Ohashi, WM in the East, MWB Nishiyama, PGM, SW in the West, and WB Hunt, PM, JW in the South.
The WM announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of February 1986, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.
The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.
Next was the Treasurer's Report given by WB Hodges. It was moved by WB Hodges and seconded by MWB Nishiyama that the Treasurer's report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED
The Secretary then read the bills for the period and WB Hodges moved and MWB Nishiyama seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED
Next was the report of the several committees:
CHARITY: A negative report was submitted.
SICK AND VISITATION: It was reported that WB Otani's wife had been taken ill and as a result he would not be able to attend lodge today.
REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: WB Hodges reported on the preparations for the installation banquet.
FRIENDLY TIPS: WB Hodges submitted a negative.
COACHING: MWB Nishiyama reported that his son, Jun, was unable to give his proficiency today as hoped but that he is diligently working on it and hopes to give it next month. See unfinished business for info on Bro. Yamaguchi.
MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: A negative report was submitted.
AUDIT: WB Hodges reported that it was not yet possible to audit the books until he and WB Ohashi can review all the records.
INVESTMENT: Due to the death of MWB Yamada, no report was rendered.
HOUSE: A negative report was submitted.
BALLOTTING: None.
RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: The Secretary read a petition for Affliation by RWB Gustav Robert Swanson, PM, of Lodge Star in the East No. 640 S.C. The WM ordered the petition to run its course.
CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read the GL Bulletins for Dec 85 and Jan 86 and and other pertinent correspondence.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS: WB Ohashi reported on the status of Bro. Yamaguchi. WB Hunt reported that some objections had been submitted to him which will require resolution before Bro. Yamaguchi can proceed. WB Hunt then read the names of his appointed officers for the following Masonic Year as will be noted in the installation portion under New Business.
NEW BUSINESS: WB Hodges moved and MWB Nishiyama seconded a motion that the lodge donate ¥30,000 to Kyoto Lodge No. 5's Eye Bank Program. MOTION CARRIED
At the sound of the gavel in the East, WB Ohashi then announced that this lodge would be called from labour to refreshment for the purpose of installing the below listed officers in their respective positions for the ensuing Masonic Year. MWB Nishiyama, PGM, was the Installing Officer and VWB Tsuji was the Installing Marshal. Of the elected and appointed officers listed below, only those with a * beside their name were installed, all others being absent for one reason or another:
Upon conclusion of the public installation ceremony and after suitable remarks by WM Hunt and othe distinguished guests, MWB Carl L. Potts, Grand Master of Masons in Japan addressed the assembly after which he closed the lodge in due and public form, with MWB Nishiyama, SW in the West and MWB Onishi, MA, Acting JW in the South.
THe members and several guests present then retired to the Negishi Club for rest and refreshment where a good time was had by all.
