Minutes 14 February 1987

The 336th Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F. & A. M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 250, Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 14th day of February 1987.

A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 1525 hours with WB Hunt, PM, WM in the East, MWB Nishiyama, PGM, SW in the West, and WB Otani, PM, JW in the South.

The WM then recognized the Distinguished Brethren as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date. He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of February 1987, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.

The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.

Next was the Treasurer's Report given by WB Ohashi. It was moved by WB Ohashi and seconded by WB Hodges that the Treasurer's report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED

The Secretary then read the bills for the period and WB Hodges moved and MWB Nishiyama seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED

Next was the report of the several committees:

CHARITY: WB Hunt submitted a negative.

SICK AND VISITATION: WB Hodges submitted a negative.

REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: WB Otani submitted a negative.

FRIENDLY TIPS: WB Hodges submitted a negative.

COACHING: WB Hodges submitted a negative. MWB Nishiyama reported that Bro. Jun continues to make progress.

MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: No report.

AUDIT: No report required.

INVESTMENT: WB Ohashi submitted a negative.

HOUSE: WB Hodges submitted a negative.

BALLOTTING: By secret ballot, Bro. Clifford Roland Ashenden was elected to dual membership in this lodge, and Brother Thomas (NMN) Hunnicutt was restored to good standing. The WM then granted a Demit to Brother Kenneth Leroy Copeland but instructed that the request for Demit submitted by WB Jack Calhun Barrs lay over until the matter of the lodge has been decided in accordance with WB Barrs letter.

RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: None.

CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read the GL Bulletin of Jan 20, 1987, other GL Correspondence and several letters from the Brethren and sister organizations at the conclusion of which WB Hodges moved and MWB Nishiyama seconded a motion that this lodge donate ¥30,000 to the Coral Assembly #9, Rainbow Girls and $200.00 to the Masonic Service Association Hospital Visitation Program. MOTION CARRIED

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: The matter of the surrender of the Charter was then taken up. WB Hodges withdrew his motion to surrender the Charter for the purpose of making a revised motion as follows:

"It is proposed that this lodge consolidate with Harmony Lodge No. 18, F. & A.M.; PROVIDING that Harmony Lodge No. 18 makes a similar motion at their next stated meeting; PROVIDING further that should the motion for consolidation be unfavorable in one or both lodges, the original motion to surrender this lodge's Charter would be acted on at the same or subsequent stated meeting of this lodge, as may be appropriate or necessary."

WB Ohashi then withdrew his second to the original motion and seconded the revised motion.

WB Hunt then directed that the procedures set forth in the Constitution and Law of the Builders be carefully and completely followed and complied with in every respect; that the necessary SUMMONS be mailed and that the proper Resolutions be prepared for submission at the next stated meeting.

NEW BUSINESS: The matter of the next stated meeting was then taken up. It was pointed out that the Grand Lodge Annual Communication will be held on 13/14 March 1987 and our March stated meeting is scheduled for the 14th, which conflicts. Accordingly, WB Hodges moved and MWB Nishiyama seconded that our March 1987 meeting be held on 7 March 1987. MOTION CARRIED

WB Hunt instructed the Secretary to request the necessary Special Dispensation and to include our request to meet with less than 7 members present.

The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of MMs, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this Lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 1648 hours with WB Hunt, PM, WM in the East, MWB Nishiyama, PGM, SW in the West, and WB Ohashi, PM, TR, (Acting) JW in the South.
