The 339th Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F. & A. M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 250, Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 11th day of July 1987.
A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 1425 hours with WB Hunt, PM, WM in the East, MWB Nishiyama, PGM, SW in the West, and Bro. Oliver, MM, (Acting) JW in the South.
The WM called the lodge up for prayer in remembrance of Bro. John Levine who died on 11 May 1987, after which he recognized the Distinguished Brethren as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date. He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of July 1987, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.
The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.
Next was the Treasurer's Report given by WB Ohashi. It was moved by WB Ohashi and seconded by WB Hodges that the Treasurer's report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED
The Secretary then read the bills for the period and WB Hodges moved and MWB Nishiyama seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED
Next was the report of the several committees:
CHARITY: WB Hunt was pleased to report no calls on charity for the period.
SICK AND VISITATION: WB Hodges submitted a negative. WB Ohashi reported that WB Otani had suffered a small accident which had slightly incapacitated him. However, he is now completely recovered and is experiencing no problems.
REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: Further discussions were held in an attempt to decide what kind of affair the lodge could sponsor that would attract our members and their friends and family. The Scottish Rite in Tokyo is sponsoring a barbecue on the 28th of August 1987. It was tentatively decided that we would attend as a lodge. Further discussions to be had at the August stated.
FRIENDLY TIPS: No report.
COACHING: MWB Nishiyama reported on the status of Bro. Jun, advising that he intends to give his proficiency next month when it is expected that Brother Lawson will be visiting us from America.
MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: Nothing to report.
AUDIT: WB Hodges reported that the Treasurer's books have been brought up to date and that there are no discrepancies.
INVESTMENT: WB Hodges requested WB Hunt to seek details from Grand Lodge concerning all our investments, particularly the investment in the U.S. Treasury Bill and to find out what is happening to the interest being earned on our investments. WB Hunt signified that he would take the requested action and report his findings.
HOUSE: Nothing to report.
BALLOTTING: The petitions for Dual Membership submitted by WB A. Takagi and Bro. Watanabe and the petition for reinstatement by Bro. Ritchie were favorably balloted on by the members present.
RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: None.
CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read the GL Bulletin of June 20, 1987 and other appropriate correspondence.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None.
NEW BUSINESS: None.
Brother Ashenden brought fraternal greetings from the WM and Brethren of Jordan Lodge No. 1339, S.C.
The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of MMs, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this Lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 1620 hours with WB Hunt, PM, WM in the East, MWB Nishiyama, PGM, SW in the West, and Bro. Oliver, MM, (Acting) JW in the South.
