The 345th Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F. & A. M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 250, Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 9th day of January 1988.
A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 1435 hours with WB Ohashi, PM, WM in the East, Bro. Watanabe, SW in the West, and Bro. Oliver, JW in the South.
The WM recognized the Distinguished Brethren as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date. He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of January 1988, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.
The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.
Next was the Treasurer's Report given by WB Otani, PM. It was moved by WB Otani and seconded by WB Hunt, PM that the Treasurer's report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED
The Secretary then read the bills for the period and WB Hodges, PM, moved and MWB Nishiyama, PGM, seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED
Next was the report of the several committees:
CHARITY: WB Ohashi was pleased to submit a negative.
SICK AND VISITATION: WB Hodges was pleased to submit a negative. WB Ohashi advised that he must have a small operation on/about 14-15 January 1988 and he expects to be hospitalized for approximately 2 weeks. The operation is not considered dangerous and WB Ohashi promised to keep us advised of his progress.
REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: WB Hodges reported that the arrangements have been made with the Negishi Club for our installation banquet.
FRIENDLY TIPS: WB Hodges advised that he has written the letter to Lodge 640 requesting their permission to purchase the phamplet "The Yokohama Temple". If favorable he will write the printer in Hong Kong for a price quotation after which the matter will be again presented to the Brethren for consideration.
COACHING: MWB Nishiyama reported on the status of Bro. Jun Nishiyama and Bro. Yoshitake. WB Hodges reported that Bro. Lindstrom will be ready to give his 2° proficiency on the 27th of February 1988.
MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: MWB Nishiyama submitted a negative.
AUDIT: No report.
INVESTMENT: No report.
HOUSE: WB Hodges submitted a negative.
BALLOTTING: The Secretary submitted a negative.
RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: The Secretary submitted a negative.
CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read the GL Bulletin of 20 December 1987 and other appropriate correspondence.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Bro. Ashenden, WM Elect, announced the names of the appointed officers for the ensuing Masonic year as follows:
The Secretary read exerpts from the Annual Report indicating that the lodge finished the year with a net gain of one member. Only 3 Brethren were suspended for NPD. WB Hodges advised that the Grand Master, MWB Chester L. Ditto has consented to be the Installing Officer for our Installation. At the request of the WM Elect, MWB Nishiyama agreed to install the Jppanese Brethren in their respective stations and to Charge the Worshipful Master and Wardens. The Secretary also reported that WB Heath, PM, Grand Lodge Inspector has agreed to be the Installing Marshal.
NEW BUSINESS: WB Ohashi advised that he is now the head of the printing section of his company and extended an offer to publish an updated roster of lodge members for mailing. The Secretary advised WB Otani that an updated roster would be in the mail to him on/about 11-12 January 1988.
The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of MMs, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this Lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 1603 hours with WB Ohashi, PM, WM in the East, Bro. Watanabe, SW in the West, and WB Hunt, PM, (Acting) JW in the South.
