The 352nd Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F. & A. M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 250, Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 13th day of August 1988.
A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 1502 hours with WB Ashenden, WM in the East, Bro. Watanabe, SW in the West, and Bro. Oliver, JW in the South.
At. the sound of the gavel in the East, the lodge was called up for prayer in remembrance of Bro. Edward L. Lee, who died on 05 July 1988 of cancer and MWB Tsune Yamada, PGM, GLOJ who died on 12 July 1988.
The WM then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of August 1988, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.
The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.
Next was the Treasurer's Report given by WB Otani. It was moved by WB Otani and seconded by Bro. Oliver that the Treasurer's report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED
The Secretary then read the bills for the period and WB Hodges moved and Bro. Oliver seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED
Next was the report of the several committees:
CHARITY: WB Ashenden was pleased to submit a negative
SICK AND VISITATION: WB Hodges reported that he had not contacted MWB Nishiyama so was uncertain of his condition. He was pleased to otherwise submit a negative.
REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: WB Hodges gave an interim report of the responses to the picnic survey. Thus far, the responses indicated that there will be 31 people in attendance. More are expected For the benefit of our Japanese Brethren, WB Ashenden requested Bro. Watanabe to translate the picnic announcement into Japanese and for the Secretary to mail it to our Japanese Brethren to be sure they understand all details.
FRIENDLY TIPS: WB Hodges submitted a negative.
COACHING: Bro. Watanabe reported that Bro. Yoshitake intends to give his 2nd degree proficiency at our September stated meeting. WB Ashenden requested Bro. Watanabe to conduct the examination.
MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: No report.
AUDIT: WB Ashenden was pleased to report that the Audit Committee had met prior to lodge and examined the Secretary and Treasurer's books. Their examination indicated that proper records are being maintained and that they are accurate. Their audit covered thru the month of July 1988.
INVESTMENT: Nothing to report.
HOUSE: WB Hodges submitted a negative.
BALLOTTING: None.
RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: The Secretary read the petitions for dual membership submitted by WB's Jay Lincoln HARRALL and William Melvin HEATH. The WM directed that the petitions take the usual course but that the assignment of an investigating committee would not be neccessary.
CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read the G/L Bulletin of 20 July 88 and other correspondence including a letter from Mr. Harold Eugene Palmer Jr. requesting that his relection be reconsidered. After discussion WB Ashenden directed tnat the matter be taken up at the September stated meeting under unfinished business
UNFINISHED BUSINESS: WB Ashenden directed WB Hunt be placed west of the altar where he was please to present WB Hunt with his Past Master's Bar. WB Hodges advised that we have received a response from Libra Press Ltd. Hong Kong concerning the booklet THE YOKOHAMA TEMPLE but that further discussion would be deferred to the September stated meeting under UNFINISHED BUSINESS.
NEW BUSINESS: None.
The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of MMs, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this Lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 1620 hours with WB Ashenden, WM in the East, Bro. Watanabe, SW in the West, and Bro. Oliver, JW in the South.
