The 361st Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F. & A. M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 250, Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 13th day of May 1989.
A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 1422 hours with WB Watanabe, SW, Acting WM in the East, Bro. McCauley, JW, Acting SW in the West, and WB Ohashi, SS, Acting JW in the South.
WB Watanabe raised the lodge and announced the death of Brother Harold Scott Hussy, who died on 21 March 1989. After prayer, he ordered the Charter draped for a period of 30 days.
He then recognized the Distinguished Brethren and first time visitors as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date. He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of May 1989, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.
The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.
Next was the Treasurer's Report given by WB Otani. It was moved by WB Otani and seconded by WB Hodges that the Treasurer's report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED
The Secretary then read the bills for the period and WB Hodges moved and MWB Nishiyama seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED
Next was the report of the several committees:
CHARITY: WB Watanabe was pleased to submit a negative.
SICK AND VISITATION: WB Watanabe was pleased to submit a negative.
REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: WB Watanabe apointed WB Hodges and Bro. Lindstrom to the annual picnic committee and requested they provide the lodge with tentative/alternate dates, menu, venue, etc, at the June stated meeting.
FRIENDLY TIPS: WB Hodges submitted a negative.
COACHING: MWB Nishiyama reported that Bro. Jun is busy studying for his MM proficiency.
MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: No report.
AUDIT: No report required.
INVESTMENT: WB Hodges reported on the status of lodge investment in the Grand Lodge Consolidated Investment Fund as per attached Grand Treasurer's letter of 25 April 1989. Everybody expressed pleasure at receiving this report and hopes the Grand Treasurer will continue to provide on a periodic basis.
HOUSE: Discussed cleaning requirements of the temple. WB Hodges volunteered to liaison w/Bro Gus Swanson and/or Lodge Star in the East No 640 to see if scheduled cleaning of the premises can be arranged; on a reimbursable basis if necessary.
BALLOTTING: None.
RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: None.
CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read two letters from the GM, the GL bulletins of Mar and Apr 20, and other correspondence as appropriate. WB Hodges then moved and Bro. Lindstrom seconded a motion that the lodge donate ¥50,000 to the Annual Grand Lodge Children's Festival. MOTION CARRIED
UNFINISHED BUSINESS: After discussion and review of conflicting dates WB Watanabe announced that we will confer the 3 degree on Bros. Yoshitake and Murata on 17 June 1989. Upon completion of assignments, each Brother will be notified in writing.
NEW BUSINESS: WB Hunt presented WB Watanabe with his WM card from GL. He then announced that GL intends to be open every Saturday morning for conducting such business as may come before it.
WB Otani thanked the Brethren for their love and concern during his recent illness and advised that he is on the way to recovery and good health. With continued recovery, he expects to again be attending lodge on a regular basis. WB Otani's remarks were received with a round of applause from the Brethren. WB Hodges reported that GL will conduct a 3 degree on a Yokosuka No 20 F.C on 27 May 1989 immediately following the GL Executive Committee meeting. All Brethren are most cordially invited to attend.
The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of MMs, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this Lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 1535 hours with WB Watanabe, SW, Acting WM in the East, Bro. McCauley, JW, Acting SW in the West, and WB Ohashi, SS, Acting JW in the South.
