Minutes 10 June 1989

The 362nd Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F. & A. M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 250, Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 10th day of June 1989.

A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 1428 hours with WB Ashenden, PM, WM in the East, WB Watanabe, SW in the West, and MWB Nishiyama, PGM, Acting JW in the South.

The WM recognized the Distinguished Brethren as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date. He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of June 1989, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.

The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.

Next was the Treasurer's Report given by WB Otani, PM. It was moved by WB Otani and seconded by WB Heath, PM, that the Treasurer's report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED

The Secretary then read the bills for the period and WB Hodges, PM moved and MWB Nishiyama, PGM seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED

Next was the report of the several committees:

CHARITY: WB Ashenden was pleased to submit a negative.

SICK AND VISITATION: WB Hodges was pleased to submit a negative. WB Ashenden reported that WB Hunt's Mother-in-law recently passed away and that he had extended condolences to the family on behalf of the lodge.

REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: Bro. Lindstrom and WB Hodges reported that the Negishi recreation field has been reserved for our use on 22 July 1989 for the entire day. Invitations/guestionnaires will be sent out to all the Brethren including GL and nearby lodges. Menu: Fried chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad, green salads, beer, wine and soft drinks. Cost to be determined but will keep to minimum. Lodge share to be discussed at July stated meeting.

FRIENDLY TIPS: WB Hodges submitted a negative.

COACHING: MWB Nishiyama reported that Bro. Jun still studying for his MM proficiency.

MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: WB Heath reported on the recent 3° conferral conducted at Grand Lodge and other matters.

AUDIT: No report required.

INVESTMENT: After discussion WB Hodges moved and WB Heath seconded that the lodge invest ¥900,000 from cash on hand in the general fund and ¥181,796, as well as all future semi-annual interest payments from our TTF investment be invested in one year time deposits at the CitiBank. MOTION CARRIED

HOUSE: WB Hodges reported on his discussions with Bro. Swanson who advised that MHL is currently paying a contractor to periodically clean and polish the floor and to clean the walls. Regular light housekeeping chores must be done by the using bodies. Condition of floors and toilet will be further discussed w/Bro. Swanson

BALLOTTING: None.

RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: None.

CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read the GL Bulletin of 21 May 1989 and after raising the lodge he was instructed to read the GM's letter of 3 June 1989 concerning the formation of the G/L of Hawaii.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: WB Ashenden requested Bros. Lindstrom and McDowell to place themselves west of the altar where he presented them with their Life Membership Certificates and thanked them for becoming life members of the lodge. WB Ashenden requested WB Otani to explore a means of hanging our lecture charts. Upcoming 3 degree for Bros. Yoshitake and Murata was discussed and parts clarified.

NEW BUSINESS: WB Heath reported on his recent vacation at a resort appx 2.5 hours drive from Yokosuka/Yokohama.

WB Ashenden suggested that the lodge might like to sponsor a weekend at this resort and requested WB Heath to explore the matter and to report his findings at our July meeting. WB Heath advised that he has been appointed the "Scottish Rite Co-ordinator" for this lodge and as such he will be available to discuss Scottish Rite matters before and after lodge meetings

The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of MMs, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this Lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 1543 hours with WB Ashenden, PM, WM in the East, WB Watanabe, SW in the West, and MWB Nishiyama, PGM, Acting JW in the South.
