The 375th Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F.&A.M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 250 Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 13th day of October 1990.
A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 14:19 hours with WB Watanabe PM, WM in the East, Bro. McCauley, SW in the West, and Bro. Lindstrom, JW in the South.
At the sound of the gavel in the East, RWB Robinson, JGL, MWGLOJ, was received with grand honors and seated in the East.
The WM recognized the Distinguished Brethren as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date. He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of October 1990, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.
The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.
Next was the Treasurer's Report given by WB Otani PM. It was moved by WB Otani and seconded by Bro. McCauley that the Treasurer's report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED.
The Secretary then read the bills for the period and WB Hodges moved and Bro. Lindstrom seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED.
Next was the report of the several committees:
CHARITY: WB Watanabe was pleased to submit a negative. WB Hodges read a letter from the GLOP appealing for financial assistance from the world Masonic organization to assist the victims of the killer earthquake in the Philippines. WB Hodges then moved and Bro. Lindstrom seconded a motion that the lodge donate ¥100,000 to the Grand Lodge of the Philippines for such assistance as needed. MOTION CARRIED.
SICK AND VISITATION: WB Hodges was pleased to submit a negative.
REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: Bro. Lindstrom reported on arrangements for Thanksgiving Dinner. Bro. Mike and WB Hodges will start the campaign to drum up business. Further update will be provided at the November meeting.
FRIENDLY TIPS: WB Hodges submitted a negative but noted that a mailing of a number of recent items put out by Grand Lodge as well as Life Membership dues cards and dues notices was mailed to all the Brethren.
COACHING: WB Watanabe submitted a report on the progress of our new MMs.
MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: Bro. McCauley submitted a negative.
AUDIT: No report required.
INVESTMENT: WB Hodges reported that all uninvested interest held at Grand Lodge was forwarded to us in late September. This amounted to ¥463,52O which was invested in a 90 day time deposit at Citibank.
HOUSE: WB Hodges submitted a negative.
BALLOTTING: None.
RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: None.
CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read the GL Bulletin of 20 September 1990.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS: WB Hodges advised that the cost of aprons and collars is more than expected and advised that additional funds will be required. He also requested the Brethren to consider the type of aprons we should buy. After discussing the pros and cons of the available types of aprons Bro. McCauley moved and WB Hodges seconded a motion that we purchase the Lamex Aprons from Macoy's. MOTION CARRIED.
NEW BUSINESS: The WM called the lodge free from restraint for the purpose of listening to the Staircase Lecture by Bro. Lindstrom. Upon conclusion the WM made several announcements of upcoming Masonic events at Harmony Lodge #18.
Bro. Smith brought fraternal greetings from the WM & Brethren of Tokyo #2 and also made several announcements of upcoming events and encouraged the Brethren to attend as many of the functions as time and circumstances permit.
At the request of the WM the Secretary read Article II Sections 1 and 2 of the lodge By-Laws and Articles 100, 100a and 100b of the Grand Lodge Constitution. RWB Röbinson extended the fraternal greetings of the GM and other Grand Lodge Officers.
The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of MMs, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 16:15 hours with WB Watanabe PM, WM in the East, Bro. McCauley, SW in the West, and Bro. Lindstrom, JW in the South.
