The 376th Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F.&A.M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 250 Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 10th day of November 1990.
A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 14:26 hours with WB Watanabe PM, WM in the East, Bro. McCauley, SW in the West, and WB Ohashi, SS, (Acting) JW in the South.
WB Watanabe raised the lodge for a moment of silent prayer, in remembrance of Bros. Grimes, Barberie, Dybo and Gibbs, who passed away on 05/21/90, 06/02/90, 09/01/90 and 02/27/90 respectively.
The WM recognized the Distinguished Brethren as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date. He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of November 1990, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.
The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.
Next was the Treasurer's Report given by WB Otani PM. It was moved by WB Otani and seconded by Bro. McCauley that the Treasurer's report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED.
The Secretary then read the bills for the period and WB Hodges moved and WB Otani seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED.
Next was the report of the several committees:
CHARITY: WB Hodges on behalf of Bro. Lindstrom JW reported that the Yokohama International Women's Club is requesting ¥30,000 to pay for Xmas Trees and four (4) turkeys for their annual Orphans Xmas Party. WB Hodges moved and Bro. McCauley seconded a motion that the lodge donate the ¥30,000 and turkeys. MOTION CARRIED.
WB Hodges then read a letter from Kyoto Masonic Lodge No 5 requesting donations for their annual Eye Bank Campaign. WB Hodges moved and WB Ohashi seconded that the lodge donate the usual ¥30,000. MOTION CARRIED.
SICK AND VISITATION: WB Hodges and WB Watanabe reported on recent telephone calls received from MWB Nishiyama.
REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: On behalf of Bro. Lindstrom, JW, WB Hodges reported that all arrangements for the Thanksgiving Dinner at the Negishi Club have been made and invitations mailed. Awaiting responses and hoping that we will have a good turn-out.
FRIENDLY TIPS: WB Hodges submitted a negative.
COACHING: WB Watanabe reported on the progress of our newest MMs.
MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: No report.
AUDIT: No report required.
INVESTMENT: WB Hodges submitted a negative.
HOUSE: WB Hodges submitted a negative.
BALLOTTING: None
RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: WB A. Takagi's request for Demit was read. After ascertaining that WB Takagi's dures for 1990 has been paid and his being otherwise in good standing, WB Watanabe ordered the Demit granted.
CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read the GL Bulletin of 20 October 1990 and a letter from Grand Secretary concerning a lodge of sorrow for GM's Nakamura, Kitamura, Y. Yamada and T. Yamada. WB Hodges then moved and WB Ohashi seconded that the lodge donate ¥5,000 to GL for flowers. MOTION CARRIED.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS: WB Hodges reported that due to a lack of dollars in our dollar account he has not yet ordered the collars and aprons. He further explained that an unexpected payback of dues will have to be made in December due to an error in calculating the dates when 15 members were eligible to become members of our "Golden 100 Club". At the request of the WM WB Hodges then read Article II, Sections 1 & 2 of the lodge By-Laws and Articles 100, 100a and 100b of the Grand Lodge Constitution. WB Watanabe reminded the Brethren that next month will be our annual election of officers. He then announced that the installation will tentatively be held on 12 January 1991. It was suggested that WB Heath, PM, our GL Inspector, be our Installing Marshal and that WB Watanabe choose a suitable Installing Officer after consulting with Grand Lodge. WB Hodges to contact WB Heath to confirm his acceptance.
NEW BUSINESS: WB Watanabe announced several upcoming Masonic events that will be taking place as did Bro. Smith, after extending fraternal greetings from the WM, Wardens, Officers and members of Tokyo Lodge No. 2.
The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before thi Lodge of MM's, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 15:36 hours with WB Watanabe PM, WM in the East, Bro. McCauley SW in the West, and WB Ohashi PM, SS, (Acting) JW in the South.
