The 379th Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F.&A.M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 250 Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 9th day of February 1991.
A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 14:20 hours with WB McCauley, WM in the East, Bro. Lindstrom, SW in the West, and WB Hunt PM, Tiler, (Acting) JW in the South.
The WM raised the lodge and after reading a letter from the Grand Secretary announcing the death of MWB Carl L. Potts PGM, he announced the deaths of Bros. Thomas E Maadie LM#1 & Ord C. Smith on 09/08/87 and 12/23/90. After a moment of silent prayer WB McCauley order the charter draped for a period of 30 days in remembrance.
The WM recognized the Distinguished Brethren as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date. He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of February 1991, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.
The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as corrected.
Next was the Treasurer's Report given by WB Otani, PM. It was moved by WB Otani and seconded by WB Watanabe PM that the Treasurer's report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED.
The Secretary then read the bills for the period and WB Hodges moved and Bro. Lindstrom seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED.
Next was the report of the several committees:
CHARITY: Bro. Lindstrom reported on the Xmas party for the orphans sponsored by the Yokohama International Women's Club. He reported that the Chairlady has extended her thanks for our donation of the turkeys and Xmas trees.
SICK AND VISITATION: WB Watanabe reported on his visit with MWB Nishiyama when he presented MWB Nish with his Life Membership certificate and card. WB Watanabe reported that even though MWB Nish is very frail he continues to care for himself for most things. His eye sight and legs are getting weak which is why he no longer can attend lodge but otherwise he is doing well.
REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: Bro. Lindstrom suggested that we start thinking of our annual picnic as to when and where we want to have it. WB McCauley agreed and indicated that we would discuss further at the March meeting. He then thanked Bros. Lindstrom and Hodges for arranging for the Installation Banquet.
FRIENDLY TIPS: WB Hodges submitted a negative.
COACHING: WB Watanabe submitted a negative.
MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: WB McCauley submitted a negative.
AUDIT: No report required.
INVESTMENT: WB Hodges reported that G/L is holding approximately ¥864,000 of our funds uninvested. Of this amount only ¥14,881 is accrued interest, the balance is principal. He then moved that we request G/L to forward both the accrued interest and uninvested principal PROVIDING the money cannot be reinvested by 01 March 1991. Bro. Lindstrom seconded the motion. MOTION CARRIED.
HOUSE: WB Hodges submitted a negative.
BALLOTTING: None
RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: None.
CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read the G/L bulletins for Nov, Dec 1990 and Jan 1991 as well as two letters from G/L concerning the annual report on charitable activities and the annual historical report and a letter from Square & Compass Lodge No. 3 concerning their installation of officers and finished by annnouncing that he has a very lengthy letter from #18 making several announcements of activities sponsored by that Lodge. WB Watanabe also announced that Harmony Lodge #18 would be holding its installation of officers 23 February 1991.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS: WB Hodges announced that WB Watanabe had not been presented with a Past Master Apron and Jewel by Harmony Lodge #18. He then moved that Far East Lodge No 1 present WB Watanabe with a PM Apron, Jewel, and Bar (since we already have purchased the bar in anticipation of presenting it to WB Watanabe) Bro Lindstrom seconded the motion. MOTION CARRIED.
WB Hodges reported that the Installation Certificates were not signed and that he had hoped WB Heath would be with us today to take care of this matter. In his absence, Bro. Lindstrom volunteered to take the certificates to Yokosuka next week and get WB Bill to sign them which would permit them to be forwarded to G/L prior to next month. WB Hodges accepted Bro. Lindstrom's kind offer of assistance.
NEW BUSINESS: WB McCauley reported on his attendance at the installation of officers for Tokyo Masonic Lodge No. 2.
The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of MMs, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this làdge was closed in due and ancient form at 16:00 hours with WB McCauley, WM in the East, Bro. Lindstrom, SW in the West, and WB Hunt PM, Tiler, (Acting) JW in the South.
