The 380th Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F.&A.M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 250 Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 9th day of March 1991.
A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 14:20 hours with WB McCauley, WM in the East, Bro. Lindstrom, SW in the West, and WB Heath PM, JW in the South.
At the sound of the gavel, the Brethren were upstanding for a moment of silent prayer in remembrance of Brother Claude Emitt COOK, Jr., who passed away on 26 January 1991 in Honolulu, HI. The lodge was ordered draped for 30 days.
The WM recognized the Distinguished Brethren as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date.
He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of March 1991, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.
The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.
Next was the Treasurer's Report given by WB Otani, PM. It was moved by WB Otani and seconded by WB Watanabe PM that the Treasurer's report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED.
The Secretary then read the bills for the period and WB Hodges moved and Bro. Lindstrom seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED.
Next was the report of the several committees:
CHARITY: Bro. Lindstrom submitted a negative.
SICK AND VISITATION: WB Heath reported that Bro. Howard is back in Japan and is getting on well.
REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: The annual picnic was discussed and a number of options presented for consideration. WB McCauley requested the Brethren to digest the matter and to be prepared to finalize the decision at our April meeting.
FRIENDLY TIPS: WB Hodges submitted a negative.
COACHING: WB Watanabe submitted a negative but Bro. Murata stated that he will be ready to give his third degree proficiency at our May meeting.
MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: WB McCauley submitted a negative.
AUDIT: WB McCauley appointed WB Watanabe and Bro. Lindstrom to audit the books prior to the April meeting and to be prepared to submit their findings at that meeting.
INVESTMENT: WB McCauley reported that he had been informally advised at the GL Executive Meeting of February that our funds together with other uninvested funds at GL would be invested by 01 March 1991 and that a check for our 1990 interest would be forthcoming soon.
HOUSE: WB Hodges submitted a negative.
BALLOTTING: Having received a favorable report a favorable ballot was cast by the Brethren on the petition of Mr. Buenaventura Joseph MACOMB to receive the degrees of Masonry in this lodge.
RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: The Secretary read a petition from Mr. Takumi MASAKI for the degrees of Masonry and an application for Dual Membership submitted by William Thomas ORVOSH, PM. WB McCauley directed that the petitions follow the normal course.
CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read the GL Bulletin of 02/20/91 and after the lodge was raised he read a letter from the Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of the Philippines thanking us for our donation to the earthquake victims in that country.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS: After appropriate announcement WB McCauley directed that WB Watanabe be escorted West of the altar where he was presented with his PM Apron, Jewel, and Bar which was greeted by acclamation by the Brethren. WB Watanabe responded with appropriate remarks. WB Heath then pointed out that WB Hodges has not yet been reinstalled as Secretary. WB McCauley indicated that the matter would be taken care of at the April meeting as he was not prepared to perform the task at this meeting. WB McCauley also instructed the Secretary to ensure, if possible, that any other Brethren who were unable to be at the Installation and have not yet been installed to be present at the April meeting. The Secretary reported that he received the Installation Certificates properly signed and had forwarded them to Grand Lodge as required.
NEW BUSINESS: WB McCauley reported on his recent visit to his mother lodge where he was pleased to extend fraternal greeting both from the Lodge and from himself and to receive from is mother lodge the warmest of fraternal greetings. He also reported on his attendance at tne Grand Lodge Executive Committee meeting. The various resolutions that will be presented at the Grand Lodge Communication were actively discussed. At the conclusion of discussions WB Heath moved and Bro. Lindstrom seconded a motion that the lodge Delegation to the GL Communication vote in the manner they consider most prudent. MOTION CARRIED.
The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before this lodge of MMs, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this lodge was closed in due and ancient form at l6:25 hours with WB McCauley, WM in the East, Bro. Lindstrom, SW in the West, and WB Heath PM, JW in the South.
