Minutes 10 August 1991

The 385th Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F.&A.M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 250 Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 10th day of August 1991.

A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 14:27 hours with WB McCauley, WM in the East, WB Watanabe PM, SD, (Acting) SW in the West, and WB Katagiri PM, (Acting) JW in the South.

The WM recognized the Distinguished Brethren as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date. He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of August 1991, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.

The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.

Next was the Treasurer's Report given by WB Hodges, PM. It was moved by WB Hodges and seconded by WB Katagiri that the Treasurer's report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED.

The Secretary then read the bills for the period and WB Hodges moved and WB Watanabe seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED.

Next was the report of the several committees:

CHARITY: WB McCauley was pleased to receive a negative.

SICK AND VISITATION: WB Watanabe updated the status of MWB Nishiyama.

REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: On behalf of Bro. Lindstrom WB Hodges gave a wrap-up report on the picnic. Some 60 to 65 people including about 13 children attended. The sum of ¥15,500 was left over after all expenses were paid, left over funds to be placed in the Harmony Fund for future use by the lodge.

FRIENDLY TIPS: WB Hodges submitted a negative.

COACHING: WB McCauley noted that Bro. Masaki is ready and will give his 1° proficiency today.

MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: WB McCauley submitted a negative.

AUDIT: None required.

INVESTMENT: WB Hodges read a letter from MWB Johnston PGM, Grand Treasurer, advising us that our funds should be transferred to our account in Citibank in early September 1991.

HOUSE: WB Hodges submitted a negative.

BALLOTTING: None

RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: None

CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read the GL Bulletin of July 20, 1991.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Deferred until the conclusion of regular business.

At the sound of the gavel in the East the lodge was lowered to the first degree for the purpose of listening to Bro. Takumi Masaki give his proficiency in this degree. WB Watanabe conducted the examination upon the conclusion of which WB McCauley declared Bro. Masaki proficient in the first degree. The lodge was called briefly free from restraint for the purpose of congratulating Bro. Masaki on an almost letter-perfect proficiency. After congratulation, Bro. Masaki was conducted out of the lodge and at the sound of the gavel in the East, the lodge was raised to the third degree.

NEW BUSINESS: WB McCauley announced that we will have a second degree at our September stated meeting either for Bro. Macomb or Bro. Masaki and that a special meeting would be scheduled for later in September for the purpose of conferring the second degree on the Brother to whom it was not conferred on at the September stated meeting.

Before closing, WB Hodges welcomed WB Katagiri back home and voiced his pleasure at once again sitting in lodge with WB Katagiri.

The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of MMs, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 15:30 hours with WB McCauley, WM in the East, WB Watanabe PM, SD, (Acting) SW in the West, and WB Katagiri PM, (Acting) JW in the South.

There were 6 Brethren present, including the candidate.
