Minutes 14 September 1991

The 386th Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F.&A.M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 250 Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 14th day of September 1991.

A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 14:23 hours with WB McCauley, WM in the East, Bro. Lindstrom, SW in the West, and WB Katagiri PM, (Acting) JW in the South.

At the sound of the gavel, the lodge was upstanding for a moment of silent prayer in remembrance of Bros. William P. Connors, PM, who passed away on 08/06/91 and Hiroshi J. Tanaka, who passed away on 05/19/91. After prayer, the WM ordered the charter draped for a period of 30 days in remembrance.

The WM recognized the Distinguished Brethren as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date. He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of September 1991, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.

The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.

Next was the Treasurer's Report given by WB Otani, PM. It was moved by WB Otani and seconded by WB Watanabe that the Treasurer's report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED.

The Secretary then read the bills for the period and WB Hodges PM moved and Bro. Lindstrom seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED.

Next was the report of the several committees:

CHARITY: WB McCauley was pleased to receive a negative.

SICK AND VISITATION: WB McCauley was pleased to receive a negative.

REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: Bro. Lindstrom submitted a negative.

FRIENDLY TIPS: WB Hodges submitted a negative.

COACHING: Bro. Lindstrom reported that Bro. Macomb is ready for his first degree proficiency.

MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: WB McCauley submitted a negative.

AUDIT: None required.

INVESTMENT: WB Hodges reported that the sum of ¥16,862,251 was transferred by the GLOJ to our checking account at Citibank on 09/05/91. He recommended that the money be transferred to a 3 month PD at Citibank and that the WM appoint a committee to review the options and recommend a long term investment plan. WB McCauley concurred with the recommendations and appointed an Investment Committee consisting of himself, the Treasurer, Secretary and WB Katagiri. The committee was requested to investigate and report their findings and recommendations to the lodge as soon as possible.

HOUSE: WB Hodges submitted a negative.

BALLOTTING: None

RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: None

CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read the GL Bulletin of 20 August 1991 and the Grand Masters Proclamation declaring the week of 7-13 July as MWB Carlos RODGRIGUES-JIMENEZ WEEK.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: WB Hodges reported that he was recently asked by the Grand Secretary the date of our installation. After discussing the matter with the involved members WB McCauley announced that our Annual Installation of Officers will be conducted on 11 January 1992 and instructed the Secretary to inform GL.

NEW BUSINESS: At the sound of the gavel the lodge was lowered to the First Degree and Bro. Macomb was examined by Bro. Lindstrom and declared proficient by WB McCauley. The lodge was then called briefly free from restraint to congratulate Bro. Macomb; after which Bro. Macomb was conducted from the lodge and at the sound of the aavel the lodge was raised to the Second Degree. Bro. Macomb was obligated as a Fellowcraft Mason by Bro. Lindstrom SW, Acting WM in the East, RWB Robinson, Grand Orator in the West, and WB Katagiri in the South. WB Hodges presented the working tools, WB Watanabe conducted Bro. Macomb and gave the Staircase Lecture. Bro. Lindstrom gave the Letter "G" lecture and WB McCauley delivered the Charge. The lodge was again called briefly free from restraint for the purpose of congratulating Bro. Macomb on his being Passed. Bro. Macomb was then conducted from the lodge and at the sound of the gavel, the lodge was returned to the Third Degree.

WB Jack Spiwak, PM, extended fraternal greetings from the WM, Officers and Brethren of Lodge Star in the East No. 640. WB McCauley requested WB Spiwak to return fraternal greetings to the WM, Officers and Brethren of Lodge Star in the East No. 640. RWB Robertson, Grand Orator, then extended fraternal greetings from the Grand Master of the MWGLOJ and from his Mother lodge. WB McCauley requested RWB Robertson to return greetings from himself and the Brethren of Far East Lodge No. 1.

The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of MMs, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 1720 hours with WB McCauley, WM in the East, Bro. Lindstrom, SW in the West, and WB Katagiri PM, (Acting) JW in the South.
