Minutes 9 November 1991

The 388th Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F.&A.M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 250 Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 9th day of November 1991.

A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 14:42 hours with WB McCauley, WM in the East, Bro. Lindstrom, SW in the West, and WB Heath PM, JW in the South.

The WM recognized the Distinguished Brethren (and first time visitors) as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date. He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of November 1991, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.

The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.

Next was the Treasurer's Report given by WB Hodges, PM. It was moved by WB Hodges and seconded by WB Heath PM that the Treasurer's report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED.

The Secretary then read the bills for the period and WB Hodges moved and Bro. Lindstrom seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED.

Next was the report of the several committees:

CHARITY: Bro. Lindstrom moved and MB Heath seconded a motion that we donate ¥30,000 and the cost of four turkeys to the Yokohama International Women's Club for their annual orphanage Christmas Party. MOTION CARRIED.

SICK AND VISITATION: MB Hodges read a short note from MWB Nishiyama which indicates that he continues to hold his own but still unable to attend lodge functions. WB McCauley requested fraternal greetings be passed to MWB Nishiyama from himself and all the Brethren of the lodge.

REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: WB Hodges reminded the Brethren to send their responses to the Thanksgiving Dinner guestionnaire as soon as possible.

FRIENDLY TIPS: WB Hodges submitted a negative.

COACHING: On behalf of MB Watanabe WB Hodges reported that Bro. Masaki is ready to give his second degree proficiency.

MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: WB McCauley submitted a negative.

AUDIT: None required.

INVESTMENT: For the benefit of all concerned WB McCauley recapped the salient points made during the meeting with the Merril Lynch representative and requested the Brethren be prepared to discuss this matter further at our December meeting.

HOUSE: WB Hodges submitted a negative.

BALLOTTING: None.

RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: The Secretary reported that Bro. George Edward Byrum has requested a Demit. His dues being paid for 1991 and there being no objections, WB McCauley granted the Demit.

The Secretary then read the petition for the degrees in this lodge submitted by Mr. Henry Warren Welsh III. WB McCauley directed that the petition run the usual course.

CORRESPONDENCE:The Secretary read the G/L Bulletin of 20 October 1991 and letters from the GL of Florida, the Tokyo York Rite Bodies, and MWB Carlos Rodriquez-Jimenez PGM and passed a letter from the Chairman of the GL Youth Activities Committee to WB McCauley for perusal at his leisure.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: WB McCauley read Article II Sections 1 and 2 of the lodge By-Laws and Articles 100, 100a and 100b of the Constitution of the MWGLOJ.

At the sound of the gavel in the East he suspended labor in this lodge of MMs and opened a lodge of FCMs for the purpose of listening to the proficiency in this degree by Bro. Masaki. WB Ohashi PM conducted the examination at the conclusion of which WB McCauley was pleased to pronounce Bro. Masaki proficient in the second degree. He then called the lodge briefly free from restraint and all present congratulated Bro. Masaki for a very fine proficiency. Bro. Masaki was then conducted out of the lodge and at the sound of the gavel in the East labors in the lodge of FCMs was closed and a lodge of MMs resumed.

NEW BUSINESS: Bro. Lindstrom brought regrets from Bro. Macomb but was pleased to report that Bro. Macomb will be prepared to give his proficiency in the second degree at our December meeting. WB Heath expressed his happiness at being back in lodge again noting that he should be able to attend more frequently now that his job situation has smoothed out. He invited the Brethren to Yokosuka Lodge No. 20 on 10 December 1991 when elections will be held. Immediately upon conclusion of elections, the officers will be installed at this closed meeting. WB Hodges extended WB Katagiri's regrets, advising that WB Katagiri will be at our December meeting.

The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of MMs, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 1624 hours with WB McCauley, WM in the East, Bro. Lindstrom, SW in the West, and WB Heath PM, JW in the South.
