The 399th Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F.&A.M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 250 Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 10th day of October 1992.
A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 14:16 hours with WB McCauley, PM, WM in the East, WB Smith, WM Tokyo Masonic Lodge No. 2, (Acting) SW in the West, and WB Katagiri PM, JW in the South.
The WM recognized the Distinguished Brethren as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date. He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of October 1992, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.
The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.
Next was the Treasurer's Report given by WB Hodges, PM. It was moved by WB Hodges and seconded by WB Katagiri that the Treasurer's report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED.
The Secretary then read the bills for the period and WB Hodges moved and WB Watanabe, PM, seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED.
Next was the report of the several committees:
CHARITY: WB McCauley was pleased to receive a negative.
SICK AND VISITATION: WB Watanabe submitted a negative.
REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: WB Hodges reported that invitations to our Annual Thanksgiving Dinner have been mailed and that the Grand Master has confirmed his attendance.
FRIENDLY TIPS: WB Hodges submitted a negative.
COACHING: Nothing to report.
MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: WB McCauley submitted a negative.
AUDIT: None required.
INVESTMENT: WB Hodges reported that we are beginning to accumulate a fair amount of Temple Trust Fund money in time deposits in Citibank and that by the time our investment with Merrill Lynch matures in 1994 we should nave a good amount to reinvest.
HOUSE: WB Hodges reported on the status of the work on the air conditioning and other items being undertaken by Masonic Hall, Ltd.
BALLOTTING: None
RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: None.
CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read the GL Bulletin of 20 September 1992.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS WB McCauley informed the lodge that Bro. Yoshida who visited us not too long ago from Brazil has sent a note book with the request that each Brother whom he met inscribe some short message in their own language. WB McCauley requested the Brethren to be sure and sign the book prior to their departure.
NEW BUSINESS WB McCauley briefly mentioned the matter of the potential Masonic Trial and indicated that the matter is still under investigation.
WB Katagiri announced that at the GL Quarterly Communication in September, a new committee was formed and named "Public Relations Committee". It is chaired by MWB Kitamura, PGM, and its purpose is to handle all public relations matters for the Fraternity in Japan. Additional information concerning this committee is expected to be published by Grand Lodge in the near future.
WB Smith brought greetings from Tokyo Lodge #2 and his apologies for not having attended our last few meetings due to conflicting schedule. He advises that things have eased a bit and that he expects to be in regular attendance again WB McCauley responded with a thank you to WB Smith for his attendance and always appreciated assistance.
WB Yamaya, RWGSW. and Inspector for Far East Lodge #1, extended fraternal greetings from MWB Cripe, GM, and spoke briefly on the closing of the year and the need to ensure that lodge business is carefully administered for the balance of the year.
WB McCauley then read Article II, Sections 1 and 2 of the lodge By-laws and Articles 100, 100a and 100b of the Constitution concerning the annual election of lodge officers.
Apologies were received from WB Otani, MWB Ditto, Bro. Yabe and Bro. Yoshitake.
The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of MMs, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 15:22 hours with WB McCauley, PM, WM in the East, WB Smith, WM Tokyo Masonic Lodge No. 2, (Acting) SW in the West, and WB Katagiri PM, JW in the South.
