Minutes 9 January 1993

The 402nd Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F.&A.M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 250 Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 9th day of January 1993.

A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 1421 hours with WB Heath, PM, WM in the East, WB Katagiri, PM, SW in the West, and WB Watanabe, PM, JW in the South.

The WM recognized the Distinguished Brethren listed in the Tiler's Register of this date. He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting far the month of January 1993, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.

The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.

Next was the Treasurer's Report given by WB Hodges, PM. It was moved by WB Hodges and seconded by WB Watanabe that the Treasurer's report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED.

The Secretary then read the bills for the period and WB Hodges moved and WB Watanabe seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED.

Next was the report of the several committees:

CHARITY: WB Heath was pleased to receive a negative.

SICK AND VISITATION: WB Smith reported that RWB Robinson recently underwent brain surgery at Gekkai Hospital in Tokyo. He is making satisfactory recovery and is expected to be released from the hospital very soon. The hospital is located near the Grand Lodge should anyone be able to visit.

REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: WB Hodges reported that 18 people attended the Installation Banquet and that WB Heath paid for the liquid refreshments and the lodge Harmony Fund paid for the food. Therefore there was no cost to the lodge. WP Heath thanked all those who were able for attending and WB Hodges for making the necessary arrangements.

FRIENDLY TIPS: WB Hodges submitted a negative.

COACHING: WB Heath asked for the names and Status of any Brethren who may he pending proficiency. WB Hodges reported that only Bro. Murata has not given his 3° proficiency.

MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: Nothing to report.

AUDIT: WB Heath appointed WB Katagiri and WB Watanabe to this committee and requested that the audit be completed by the March Stated Meeting.

INVESTMENT: WB Hodges reported that we received the ¥390,010 from Merrill Lynch on 20 December 1992 as expected.

HOUSE: WB Hodges submitted a negative.

WB Heath then appointed the Brethren to the Committees indicated on page 3 attached hereto with Chairman as indicated.

BALLOTTING: None. WB Heath then proceeded to obligate WB Jack Peter Spiwak, PM, as a Dual Member of this lodge and welcomed him as a valuable addition to the lodge. WB Spiwak responded with appropriate remarks.

RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: None.

CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read the G/L Bulletin of 20 Dec 1992, a letter from Yokosuka Lodge #20 concerning their installation of officers scheduled for 23 January 1993 and a letter from RWB Yamaya, SWG, soliciting donations for the annual National Federation of Spinal Cord Injured Person's Association to assist them in their "Wheelchair Sports Training Seminar" WP Hodges moved and WB Watanabe seconded a motion that the lodge donate ¥50,000. MOTION CARRIED.

WB Katagiri then advised that physical assistance is also needed and that he would work with the Japanese Brethren to provide as much assistance as possible since the capability to speak the Japanese language will be required. WB Heath thanked WB Katagiri for taking the lead in this matter.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: WB Katagiri advised that Bro. Masaki was ready to give his third degree proficiency. WB Heath requested WB Watanabe to conduct the examination. Upon completion, WB Heath was most happy to declare Bro. Masaki a most proficient Master Mason.

NEW BUSINESS: None.

WB Smith extended greetings from Tokyo Lodge #2 and invited the Brethren to attend an upcoming 3° and the Annual Installation of Officers on the 23rd of January. WB Heath returned the greetings and thanked WB Smith for his usual very timely and fine assistance. WB Spiwak extended greeting from Lodge Star in the East No. 640, his mother lodge.

The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of MMs, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 1556 hours with WB Heath, PM, WM in the East, WB Katagiri, PM, SW in the West, and WB Watanabe, PM, JW in the South.
