Minutes 11 March 1995

The 423rd Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F.&A.M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 250 Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 11th day of March, 1995.

A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 14:10 hours with WB Welsh, WM in the East, WB Katagiri, PM, SW in the West, and WB Fullerton, (Acting) JW in the South.

At the sound of the gavel in the East, the lodge was raised for a moment of silent prayer in remembrance of Bro. Gerard (Jerry) Snell who passed to the Celestial Lodge on 6 February, 1995. After prayer, the WM ordered the Charter draped for 30 days to honor our departed Brother.

The WM recognized the Distinguished Brethren as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date. He announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of March 1995, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.

The WM then installed Bro. Masaki as JW.

The Secretary read the minutes, one for the Stated Meeting on 4 February and one for the Special Meeting on 18 February, and they were approved as corrected.

Next was the Treasurer's report given by WB Hodges. It was moved by WB Hodges and seconded by Bro. Warnell that the Treasurers report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED.

The Secretary then read the bills for the period and Bro. Warnell moved and WB Hodges seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED.

Next was the report of the several committees:

CHARITY: Nothing to report.

SICK AND VISITATION: WB Katagiri provided an update on WB Ohashi's medical condition and WB Hodges provided updates on WB Hunt's medical condition and Bro. Swanson's medical condition.

REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: Nothing to report.

FRIENDLY TIPS: Nothing to report.

COACHING: Nothing to report.

MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: Nothing to report.

AUDIT: Nothing to report.

INVESTMENT: Nothing to report.

HOUSE: Nothing to report.

BALLOTTING: Nothing to report.

RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: The Secretary read two petitions to receive the Degrees of Masonry from Godofredo Pacson Magno and Ramon Santos Leyeza. Also, one petition for affiliation was read from WB Hollis M. Fullerton, PM and Acting Grand Lodge Secretary.

CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read the GLOJ Monthly Bulletin for February 1994 and stated that anyone wanting to read the Minutes of the Executive Committee Meetings of 28 November 1994 and 28 January 1995 could do so after the meeting. The WM then read the following three resolutions which were voted upon after the readings.

  1. Resolution submitted by Aomori Lodge No. 10, Re: Life Membership. The Brethren voted for this resolution.
  2. Resolution submitted by Tokyo Yuai Lodge No. 11, Re: Grand Masters Edict No. 13. The Brethren voted that the three Pillars of the Lodge vote their conscience on this issue at the Annual Communication.
  3. Resolution submitted by Kokusai Lodge No. 15, Re: The Code, Section 8 and 9. The Brethren voted for this resolution.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: WB Watanabe reported that he has contacted each new EA and has set up monthly instruction sessions at the lodge for every first Saturday of the month at 14:00 hours.

NEW BUSINESS: The WM provided the schedule of Masonic activities through April 1995. He also read his welcoming address for the Past Grand Master to be presented at the Annual Communication.

The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of MMs, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 17:08 hours with WB Welsh, WM in the East, WB Katagiri, PM, SW in the West, and Bro. Masaki, JW in the South.

There were 10 Brethren present, 3 of which were visitors.
