Minutes 8 July 1995

The 427th Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F.&A.M. was held at the Masonic Temple. No. 50 Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 8th day of July 1995.

A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 14:10 hours with WB Welsh, WM in the East, WB Katagiri, PM, SW in the West, and RWB Patterson (Acting), JW in the South.

The WM recognized the Distinguished Brethren as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date. He announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of July 1995, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.

The Secretary read the minutes for the Stated Meeting of 10 June, and they were approved as corrected.

Next was the Treasurer's report given by WB Hodges. It was moved by WB Hodges and seconded by WB Watanabe that the Treasurer's report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED.

The Secretary then read the bills for the period and Bro. Warnell moved and WB Watanabe seconded that the bills be paid as read. MOTION CARRIED.

Next was the report of the several committees:

CHARITY: Nothing to report

SICK AND VISITATION: WB Katagiri provided an update on WB Ohashi's medical condition.

REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: Nothing to report

FRIENDLY TIPS: Nothing to report.

COACHING: WB Hodges stated that Bros. Leyeza and Ogiu will be working together on EA degree work. WB Hodges will be working with both Brethren and they might be ready to be passed during our November meeting.

MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: Nothing to report.

AUDIT: Nothing to report.

INVESTMENT: WB Katagiri reported that the Lodge's government bond is due to mature on December, so we must decide how to reinvest it in either November or December. He said that we may he able to find a good priced bond, either local or government, or even a monthly fixed bank deposit.

HOUSE: WB Hodges reported that he has made no progress yet in getting the lodge carpeted, but due to the recent flood in the lodge, he said that perhaps carpeting isn't such a good idea.

BALLOTTING: Nothing to report.

RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: One petition for degrees was read for Mr. Tyrone Lynwood Hayden. One petition for dual membership was read for Bro. Kenneth A. E. Gustafson.

CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read one piece of correspondence from the GM, Proclamation 3-95, the subject of which was the proclamation that 31 July through 6 August be observed as International Rainbow Week. Then the Secretary read the GLOJ Monthly Bulletin dated 20 June 1995. In addition, the Secretary advised that anyone wanting to read the GLOJ Executive Committee Meeting Minutes could do so after the meeting.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Nothing to report.

NEW BUSINESS: The WM provided the Secretary with an tentative schedule for upcoming Lodge activities which the Secretary will mail to all Far East Lodge #1 members in Japan.

The WM then asked the DGM & Lodge inspector, RWB Patterson, to address the Lodge. After RWB Patterson's remarks, the WM called the Lodge free from constraint at 14:59 to prepare for the conferral of the degree of fellow craft on Bro. Kenichi Miyata.

At the sound of the gavel in the East, the lodge was lowered to the 2nd degree for the conferral.

Bro. Miyata was obligated as a Fellowcraft Mason with WB Welsh in the East, WB Katagiri in the West, and RWB Patterson in the South. WB Welsh presented the Working Tools, WB Watanabe the Staircase Lecture, WB Welsh the letter "G" Lecture and the Charge. Upon completion of the degree work, the lodge was again called briefly free from restraint for the purpose of congratulating Bro. Miyata on his being passed to the degree of Fellowcraft Mason and to permit him to depart from the lodge.

At the sound of the gavel in the East, the lodge was raised to the 3rd degree for closing.

The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of MMs, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 16:53 hours with WB Welsh, WM in the East, WB Katagiri, PM, SW in the West, and RWB Patterson, JW in the South.
