Minutes 9 September 1995

The 428th Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F.&A.M. was held at the Masonic Temple, No. 250 Yamashita-cho, Naku-ku, Yokohama, Japan on the 9th day of September 1995.

A Lodge of MMs was opened in due and ancient form at 14:20 hours with WB Welsh, WM in the East, WB Katagiri, SW in the West, and Bro. Masaka, JW in the South.

The WM recognized the Distinguished Brethren as listed in the Tiler's Register of this date. He then announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of July, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of the last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings.

The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.

Next was the Treasurer's Report given by WB Hodges. It was moved by WB Hodges and seconded by WB Heath that the Treasurer's report be approved as read, subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED.

The Secretary then read the bills for the period and Bro. Warnell moved and WB Hodges seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED.

Next was the report of the several committees:

CHARITY: Nothing to Report.

SICK AND VISITATION: WB Katagiri provided an update of WB Ohashi's medical condition.

REFRESHMENT AND ENTERTAINMENT: Nothing to Report.

FRIENDLY TIPS: Nothing to Report.

COACHING: WB Watanabe reported that Bro. Miyata will join us at the October Stated Meeting and will be ready for his 2nd degree proficiency. WB Watanabe also reported that Bro. Ogiu will be ready for his first degree proficiency during the next Stated Meeting.

MASONIC EDUCATION/LODGE HISTORY: Nothing to report.

AUDIT: Nothing to report.

INVESTMENT: Nothing to report.

House: Nothing to report

BALLOTING: WB Welsh announced that the committees of inquiry had submitted favorable reports on the petition of Mr. Tyrone Hayden and he was elected to receive the degrees of Masonry in this lodge.

RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: One petition for degrees was read for Mr. Rodolfo Cruz Herrera. One petition for dual membership was read for Bro. Robert Andrew Montgomery.

CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read two pieces of correspondence from the GM, one an External Relations Report on recent news reports on Masonry and the other a cover letter to that External Relations Report. The Secretary also read other correspondence as follows: Information on the 20 October Masonic Joint Fellowship barbecue, an Education Committee Report, an Awards Committee request for submission of candidates to be recognized for their Masonic contributions, GLOJ Monthing Bulletins for July and August, and a report from the External Relations Committee concerning recent news reports of Masonry.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Nothing to report.

NEW BUSINESS: Prior to the opening of our Stated Meeting, Lodge Brethren paid graveside respects to the mother of RWB Joe A. Daile, the District Deputy for the Scottish Rite, Valley of Korea & Japan: Miya.

The WM read his draft for a resolution to amend Section 60 of the Constitution and other portions as necessary. The WM asked that lodge members consider the proposed resolution for one month to be voted on at the next Stated Meeting.

At 15:40 hours the Lodge was lowered to the First Degree of Masonry to confer the First Degree on Brother Leyeza. Bro. Macomb conducted the examination. The WM then declared Bro. Leyeza proficient. At 16:04 the lodge was called free from constraint to congratulate Bro. Leyeza.

At 16:10 the lodge was raised back to the 3rd degree for the purpose of closing.

The WM then announced that there being no further business to come before this Lodge of MMs, we would proceed to close. Peace and harmony prevailing, this lodge was closed in due and ancient form at 16:22 hours with WB Welsh, WM in the East, WB Katagiri, PM, SW in the West, and Bro. Masaki, JW in the South.
