Minutes 10 January 2004

The 514th Stated Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1, F. &A.M. was held at the Masonic Temple located at 77-12 Honmoku Midorigaoka, Naka-ku, Yokohama on the 10th day of January 2004.

A lodge of MM’s was opened in due and ancient form at 1415 hours with WB Herrera, PM, SW, Acting WM, in the East, WB Masaki, PM, Marshal, Acting SW, in the West, and RWB Katagiri, DGM, Acting JW, in the South.

The WM recognized the Distinguished Brethren present as listed in the Tyler’s register of this date and announced that this being our Stated Meeting for the month of January 2004, the first order of business would be the reading of the minutes of our last Stated Meeting and all subsequent Special Meetings. The Secretary read the minutes and they were approved as read.

The Treasurer then gave his report after which he moved and it was seconded that the report be accepted as read subject to the usual audit. MOTION CARRIED.

The Secretary then read the bills for the period after which he moved and it was seconded that the bills be paid. MOTION CARRIED.

Next was the report of the several committees: All committee reports were negative with the exception of the following:

CHARITY: Alms in the amount of ¥7,300 were collected.

SICK AND VISITATION: MWB Heath, via email, gave an update on his wife’s condition and progress, noting that she has returned home but recently suffered a temporary setback. Problem appears to have cleared up but further tests seem indicated. He will keep us informed.

WB Bond provided an update on MWB Ditto, noting that while he is doing well, he is still confined to a wheel chair and it is unlikely he will be able to attend future lodge meetings.

REFRESHMENT & ENTERTAINMENT: WB Hodges reported that all arrangements for the banquet this evening have been finalized with the USS Club and that 12 reservations have been received.

COACHING: WB Hodges reported that he will be working with Bro Jackson on his proficiency and expects him to be prepared to give his proficiency at our February meeting. Bro Jackson is learning the long form of the proficiency. WB Hodges pointed out that if Bro Jackson does give his proficiency at our February meeting, we should be prepared to confer the second degree and suggested that WB Herrera make the work assignments as soon as possible.

RECEPTION OF PETITIONS: None

CORRESPONDENCE: The Secretary read the G/L Bulletin of 20 December and Supplement of 31 December 2003.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: None

NEW BUSINESS: At the sound of the gavel in the East, the lodge was called from labor to refreshment for the purpose of Installing the officers of this lodge for Masonic Year 2004. Assisted by MWB Kazzy Watanabe, PGM, MWB James L. Johnston, PGM, installed the following named brethren in the office indicated:

After remarks by WB Herrera and other dignitaries present, fraternal greetings and best wishes were received from the following:

Takoku Lodge No. 19; Tokyo Masonic Lodge No. 2; Tokyo Yuai Lodge No. 11; Yokosuka Lodge No. 20; Kantai Lodge No. 16, Sinim Lodge and Star in the East No. 640. WB Bond brought greetings on behalf of District 19, F.E., District Grand Lodge of the Philippines.

After confirming that there was no further business to come before this lodge, WB Herrera requested MWB Johnston to close the lodge in short form. MWB Johnston closed the lodge in short form at 1540 hours with WB Masaki, PM, SW, in the West and Bro Mendoza, JW, in the South. There were 9 members and 8 visitors present (including 3 non-Masons during the Installation).
