Bro. Harry D. SETTLE (August 22, 2012)
Bro. Harry Dean SETTLE was born on January 3, 1946 in Smith Grove, Kentucky.
He was initiated into Far East Lodge No. 1 on March 14, 1958, was passed on June 18, 1958 and raised on July 16, 1958. He received his 25-year Pin on July 22, 1983 and his 50-year Pin in July, 2010. He became a member of the Lodge's Golden 100 Club on January 1, 1991.
Bro. SETTLE passed away in his sleep on August 22, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. At the time of his death he was a resident of San Antonio, Texas. News of his demise reached the lodge through his daughter, Mrs. Georgia Settle Snodgrass. She reported that Bro. SETTLE was given a Masonic funeral by the Brethren of Nat M. Washer Lodge No. 1270 followed by a military service and burial at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
Thanks to her father's influence, Mrs. Snodgrass became a member of Job's Daughters and is still active in two Eastern Star chapters in San Antonio. She further writes that her father never forgot Far East Lodge No. 1, and always greeted the arrival of his annual dues card with great delight.
Bro. John L. BOOMS (March 1, 2012)
Bro. John Lawrence BOOMS was born on October 24, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan.
He was initiated into Far East Lodge No. 1 on January 16, 1957, was passed on February 20, 1957 and raised on April 10, 1957. He received his 25-year Pin on April 22, 1982 and his 50-year Pin on March 7, 2007. He purchased Life Membership in 1961, becoming Life Member No. 164. Bro. BOOMS was also a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies in Tokyo.
Bro. BOOMS was a radio operator during the Korean War, responsible for ground-to-air communication. After the war he settled down in Japan. He set up a chain of successful English-language schools in the Otsu City area of Shiga Prefecture and lived in a condominium overlooking Lake Biwa. Because of his wife's ill health, he spent his final years in a residential home adjoining the hospital where his wife was receiving intensive care.
Bro. Ernest D. CAUTHEN (January 30, 2005)
Bro. Ernest Douglas CAUTHEN was born on August 9, 1929 in Heath Spring, South Carolina.
He was initiated into Far East Lodge No. 1 (then Far East Lodge No. 124) on October 10, 1951, was passed on December 26, 1951 and raised on November 19, 1952. He received his 25-year Pin on March 27, 1977 and his 50-year Pin on March 8, 2002. On January 1, 1992 he qualified for the Lodge's Golden Centenary Club and automatically became Life Member No. 242. Bro. CAUTHEN was also a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies in Tokyo and after his return to the United States became a dual member of Rex Lodge No. 251 in Rex, Georgia.
Bro. Garfield Roberts, our indefatigable researcher in the US, has determined that Bro. CAUTHEN passed away in Hiram, GA, presumably at the last address we have on file. As dues cards sent to this address were not returned, it is likely that surviving members of his family are still living at that address, and the reason why his demise went unnoticed for so many years.
Bro. Edward O. Crouch, Sr. (December 28, 2011)
Bro. Edward O. CROUCH was born in Washington, Pennsylvania on January 25, 1920.
He was initiated into Far East Lodge No. 1 on May 9, 1956, passed on April 24, 1958 and raised on January 15, 1959. He joined the Lodge's 100C Club and became Life Member No. 235 in January 1991.
Bro. CROUCH was a retired Lt. Colonel in the US Army and his ashes have been interred at Arlington National Cemetery.
He was staying at his son's home in Annandale, VA at the time of his death. His wife Ida passed away in 1999 and his sister Florence in 2005. He is survived by his sons Ronald, Edward Jr., and Daniel, and by five grandchildren.
Bro. James H. KOGA (October 2, 2011)
Bro. James Hiroshi KOGA was born on February 7, 1922 in Long Beach, California.
Before his retirement, he worked as a merchandise procurement employee at the Army and Air Force Exchange Service.
He was initiated into Far East Lodge No. 1 (then Far East Lodge No. 124) on May 11, 1955, was passed on June 22, 1955 and raised on September 21 , 1955. He purchased Life Membership in 1957, becoming Life Member No. 36. He received his 25-year Pin on January 26, 1981 and his 50-year Pin on September 3, 2005. However, the letter containing his 50-year pin was returned to the Lodge, address unknown, and his status changed to Lost Life Member.
News of his death was reported in a Honolulu, Hawaii newspaper and forwarded to the Lodge by Bro. Garfield Roberts. According to the obituary, Bro. KOGA is survived by his wife Ikuko, his son Robert K., his brother Henry, and his sister Rosalie Kato.
WB Francisco A. B. YULE (February, 2009)
WB Francisco Arther Botlho YULE was born a Portuguese citizen in Macao, China on June 29, 1916.
He was initiated on March 16, 1950 and passed on April 6, 1950 into Sun Lodge No. 6, Shanghai, under the post-War Grand Lodge of China. (Formerly Sun Lodge No. 114 under the Grand Lodge of the Philippines). After the rise of the Communist regime and the expulsion of Masonry from China, WB YULE came to Japan and was raised on April 25, 1951 in Far East Lodge No. 124, the forerunner of Far East Lodge No. 1.
He received his 25-year Pin on May 5, 1976 and his 50-year Pin on May 11 2001.
News of the death of WB YULE reached Far East Lodge No. 1 from his son, Edward Yule, who reported that WB YULE maintained fond memories of his fraternal association with Far East Lodge No. 1 until the very end.
WB Sunao KANEMITSU (September 9, 2010)
WB Sunao 'Tony' KANEMITSU was born in Gardena, California on August 18, 1914.
He was initiated into Aomori Lodge No. 10 on March 11, 1959, passed on March 31, 1959 and raised on April 7, 1959. After moving to Yokohama he was a regular visitor to Far East Lodge No. 1 and was elected an Honorary Member in November 2006. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies in Tokyo.
WB KANEMITSU continued attending the meetings of Far East Lodge No. 1 until 2008, when failing health necessitated his moving into a care home located in the Shin-Yamashita area of Yokohama.
He passed away quietly and painlessly on September 9, 2010, his death being reported to the Lodge by his widow.
Bro. John J. MURAOKA (September 15, 2010)
Bro. MURAOKA was born on June 17, 1927 in Mountain View, California. He was initiated into Far East Lodge No. 1 on March 12, 1958, passed on April 16, 1958 and raised on May 28, 1958. He received his 25-Year Pin on July 1, 1983 and became a member of the Lodge's Golden Century Club and Life Member No. 246 on January 1, 1993.
Bro. MURAOKA was also a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies in Tokyo.
He succumbed to cancer on September 15, 2010 in Daly City, California.
WB Alfred R. HARRISON (November 7, 2009)
WB HARRISON was born in St Helens, Oregon on Nov 20, 1920.
He was initiated into Far East Lodge No. 1 on March 9, 1960, passed on April 20, 1960 and raised on June 8, 1960. He became Life Member No. 97 in 1963.
WB HARRISON served as Worshipful Master of Far East Lodge No 1 in 1966 and received his 25-year Pin on June 10, 1985.
Although WB HARRISON was a Life Member of our Lodge, the Secretary lost contact with him in 1996, and after four years he was suspended on December 31, 2000 for lack of a valid address. News of his death was received from Bro. Garfield Roberts, whose meticulous research revealed that WB HARRISON had passed away on November 7, 2009 in Cornelius, Oregon.
WB Thomas H. HODGES (March 8, 2010)
WB HODGES was born in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma on Oct 3, 1933. He came to Japan with the US forces and for most of his career served as a civilian employee on numerous bases in the Kanto area. After retiring from his military duties, he worked first as the Director of the United Seamens' Service Club in Honmoku, Yokohama and later as the representative of the Norwegian Postal Service for Yokohama Port.
WB HODGES was initiated into Far East Lodge No. 1 on December 11, 1968, passed on April 30, 1969 and raised on May 28, 1969. He became Life Member No. 122 in 1970. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies in Tokyo and an affiliate member and PM of Lodge Star in the East No. 640.
WB HODGES served two terms as Worshipful Master of the Lodge, in 1975 and 1982. He also served as Secretary for over twenty years until his departure from Japan in 2004. His final years were spent with his daughter Linda and granddaughter Celeste in Elk Grove, California.
WB HODGES was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in October 2009 and succumbed on March 8, 2010 after experiencing some breathing difficulties.
Bro. Samuel E. FIELDS (August 15, 2009)
Bro. FIELDS was born in Grenada, Missouri on Oct 31, 1956. He served for eight years in the US Navy. While stationed in Japan he met and married his wife Pam, lived in Yokohama, and joined Far East Lodge No. 1. He was initiated on December 14, 1977, passed on March 8, 1978 and raised on April 12, 1976. He became Life Member No. 178 on the same day he was raised.
Bro. FIELDS passed away on August 15, 2009 soon after suffering a massive stroke to his brain stem. He is survived by his wife Pam, his two daughters, Samantha (19) and Sabrina (12), his mother and two brothers.
At the time of his death, Bro. FIELDS was a resident of Tyler, Texas.
HWB Walter Morris JOHNSON (November 28, 2008)
HWB JOHNSON was born on September 7, 1913 in Flushing, New York. He was initiated in Far East Lodge No. 1 on September 14, 1996, passed on February 8, 1997 and raised on May 10. For his service and contribution to the Lodge, in April 2006 he was made an Honorary Past Master and also received a Diploma of Merit from the Grand Lodge of Japan.
HWB JOHNSON was also a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, Tokyo.
HWB JOHNSON was Life Member No. 631 of Far East Lodge No. 1.
Bro. Arch Lafayette McMAHAN (September 12, 2008)
Bro. McMAHAN was born in Greenville, South Carolina on 25 November 1927. He was initiated into Far East No. 1 on 18 January 1956, passed on 21 March 1956 and raised on 25 April 1956.
In 1972 he became Life Member No. 135 and on 16 May 1981 qualified for his "25-year Pin". News of his demise was received from his widow, Lily Y. McMahan.
Bro. Charles C. JACKSON (June 12, 2008)
Bro. JACKSON was born in Dingess, West Virginia on 30 April 1922. He was initiated into Far East No. 1 on 29 May 1951, passed on 20 February 1952 and raised on 30 April 1952.
He was a recipient of the Lodge's 25 and 50 Year Pins, and on 1 January 1991 was admitted to the Golden 100 Club, for members whose physical and Masonic ages total more than 100.
He was Life Member No. 228 and was also a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, Tokyo.
News of his demise was received from Mrs. Betty Gilbert, who looked after Bro. JACKSON in his old age. She reported that Bro. JACKSON had died of a massive heart attack at 8:30 p.m. on June 12, 2008, and was laid to rest at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery on 17 June 2008.
Bro. Daniel D. KINCAID (February 17, 2008)
Bro. KINCAID was born in Clayton, OK on 2 January 1934. He served in the US Navy for 24 years, including two tours in Vietnam. From 1966 until 2004 he resided in Pensacola and then moved to New Braunfels, TX. He was initiated into Far East Lodge No. 1 on 9 June 1965, passed on 30 June 1965 and raised on 15 September 1965. He was a member of the Tokyo Bodies of the Scottish Rite and was also active in the Hadji Shrine Temple from 1967 until his death. He passed away after a courageous battle with a rare lung disease.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Meliza, his two daughters and his seven grandchildren.
Bro. KINCAID was Life Member No. 259 of Far East Lodge No. 1.
Bro. Guy Y. POLL (May 9, 2007)
Bro. POLL was born in Antwerp, Belgium on 15 August 1932. He was initiated into Far East Lodge No. 1 on 9 December 1970, passed on 27 January 1971 and raised on 17 February 1971. In 1974 he became a Life Member of the Lodge and was awarded his 25-Year Pin in 1996.
Bro. Poll's work took him to both Nagasaki and Korea. In Korea he affiliated to Lodge Pusan No. 1675 S.C. He eventually left Yokohama and settled down in Nagasaki with his Japanese wife. After the death of his wife, Bro. Poll moved to Mexico. Before leaving Japan he visited Yokohama and bid a fond farewell to the Brethren of Far East Lodge No. 1. He also donated to them his extensive collection of Masonic books.
Bro. POLL continued his Masonic activities in Mexico and was a member of both the Masonic Lodge of Ajijic and the Lake Chapala Shrine Club.
Bro. POLL was Life Member No. 147 of Far East Lodge No. 1.
Bro. Raymon J. HINDMAN (October 8, 2006)
Bro. HINDMAN was born in Seattle, WA on 3 June 1920. He was initiated into Far East Lodge No. 1 on 19 September 1962, passed on 17 April 1963 and raised on 25 September 1063. In 1974 he became a Life Member of the Lodge in 1965 and was awarded his 25-Year Pin in 1988.
At the time of his death Bro. HINDMAN was a resident of Walnut Creek, CA.
Bro. HINDMAN was Life Member No. 105 of Far East Lodge No. 1.
WB Louie T. VANVIG (September 17, 2006)
WB VANVIG was born on 14 May 1914 in Medora Billings, ND, and initiated into Chickasaw Lodge #894, AL on 15 October 1947. He was passed on 3 December 1947 and raised on 10 December 1947. On 1 May 1968 he affiliated to Far East Lodge No. 1 and served two terms as Worshipful Master, in 1971 and 1972. WB Vanvig died of lung cancer in the early hours of 17 September 2006 and was survived by his wife Cynthia and two daughters.
WB VANVIG was Life Member No. 118 of Far East Lodge No. 1.
Bro. Harold G. EBERHART (April 30, 2006)
Bro. EBERHART was born on 16 February 1922 and initiated into Far East Lodge No. 1 on 14 March 1956. He was passed on 18 April 1956 and raised on 31 May 1956. At the time of his death of lung cancer he was resident in Bella Vista, Arizona. He was survived by his wife Victoria L. Eberhart.

Bro. Fretwell J. FLOYD (March 15, 2006)
Bro. FLOYD was born on 20 May 1923 in Columbia, NC, and initiated into Far East Lodge No. 1 on 10 February 1960. He was passed on 18 May 1960 and raised on 22 June 1960. At the time of his death he was resident in Havelock, North Carolina.
Bro. FLOYD became Life Member No. 243 of Far East Lodge No. 1 in 1992. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite, Tokyo.

Bro. CLARK was born in Morganton, NC on 16 October 1927. He was initiated into Far East Lodge No. 1 on 9 December 1959, passed on 20 January 1960 and raised on 24 February 1960. He was awarded his 25-Year Pin in 1985 and was a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, Tokyo. He became a Life Member of the Lodge in 1995. At the time of his death Bro. Details of the place and cause of death are unknown, but at the time of last contact he was living in Las Vegas, NV.

Bro. CHOOPE was born in Plainfield, NJ on 3 October 1947. He was initiated into Far East Lodge No. 1 on 16 March 1977, passed on 22 June 1977 and raised on 21 September 1977. He was awarded his 25-Year Pin in 2002.

Bro. HUDSON was born on 13 May 1916 in Halifax, Canada. He was initiated into Far East Lodge No. 1 on 14 June 1950. He was passed on 9 March 1957 and raised on 18 May of the same year. On 17 May 1982 he was awarded the Lodge's 25-Year Pin and on 12 May 2007 his 50-Year Pin. At the time of his death he was resident in Sierra Vista, AZ. He is survived by his wife Felica.

Bro. Wilber Harding ARNBERG (June 8, 2004)
Bro. ARNBERG was born on 2 November 1920 in San Leandro, CA, USA. He was elected to Far East Lodge No. 1 on 3 August 1949, initiated on 9 November 1949, passed on 8 February 1950 and raised on 8 March 1950.
He became Master of Munster Lodge #833, Ulm, Germany in 1958. He was a Member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Tokyo and a KCCH Scottish Rite Mason. He was also President of the California Association of High Twelve Clubs 1990/1991. A 54-year member of Far East Lodge No. 1, Bro. ARNBERG passed away at his home in Walnut Creek, CA of heart failure. He was survived by his wife Eleanor Arnberg.

MWB William Melvin HEATH (March 27, 2004)
MWB HEATH was born on May 18, 1945 in Montreal, Canada. He was initiated in Yokosuka Lodge No. 20 on June 17, 1980, passed on June 20 and raised on June 24. He became Worshipful Master of Yokosuka Lodge in 1985.
He petitioned Far East Lodge No. 1 for affiliation on August 5, 1988 and was admitted on September 10. He served four terms as Worshipful Master of Far East Lodge, in 1993, 2001, 2002 and 2003.
He became Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Japan in 1998.
MWB HEATH was Life Member No. 226 of Far East Lodge No. 1.
Bro. Michael Karroz ABRAHAM (March 23, 2004)
Bro. ABRAHAM was born on March 5, 1918 in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. He was initiated into Far East Lodge No. 1 on March 22, 1950. After leaving Japan he was passed on March 8 and raised on March 22, 1956 by Stuttgart-American Lodge UD in Stuttgart, Germany, which performed the degrees as courtesy work.
In 1987 he became a dual member of Petaluma Lodge No. 180, in Petaluma, California.
Bro. ABRAHAM was Life Member No. 227 of Far East Lodge No. 1.
Bro. Robert Granville BRYANT (February, 2004)
Bro. BRYANT was born on 04 February 1930 in Brookhaven, MS, USA. He was elected to Far East Lodge No. 1 on 06 August 1958, initiated on 10 September 1958, passed on 08 November 1961 and raised on 21 December 1961. At the time of his death he was resident in Salenis, California. He was survived by his wife Judy Fujie Bryant.

Bro. Haley was born on April 21, 1917 in Iowa. He was initiated into Far East Lodge No. 1 on April 11, 1962. He was passed on May 16 and raised on June 20 of the same year. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Tokyo. He passed away in Dallas, Texas.

Bro. Eugene Clarance LONG (December 8, 2003)
Bro. LONG was born 16 September 1916 in Cuba, MO, USA. He was initiated into Far East Lodge No. 1 on 14 December 1955, passed on 13 March 1957, and raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on 22 May 1957. He became a Life Member on 28 January 1963 and received his 25-year pin in 1982. At the time of his death he was resident in Honolulu, HI.

Bro. Arthur Bettencourt OLIVER (August 29, 2003)
Bro. OLIVER was born on 24 March 1914 in Providence, RI, USA. Bro. Oliver was initiated 21 February 1962, passed August 8 1962 and raised on September 26 1962. At the time of his death he was resident in California.
Bro. Donald R. WEBB (February 27, 2003)
Bro. WEBB was born on December 13, 1924 in Charlton, Iowa. He petitioned Far East Lodge No. 1 in September 1959 and was initiated on January 13, 1960. He was passed on June 15 and raised on June 29 of the same year. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Tokyo.
A marine engineer with the MSTS Far East Area during his stay in Japan, Bro. Webb returned to the United States in 1975 and settled down in Seattle, WA. On December 18, 1975 he became a dual member of Ashler Lodge No. 121 in Bothell, Washington.
Bro. WEBB was Life Member No. 66 of Far East Lodge No. 1.
Bro. Michael HALLIDAY (February, 2003)
Bro. HALLIDAY was born on August 15, 1909 in the province of Galicia, now a part of Poland. He petitioned Far East Lodge No. 1 on November 4, 1948 and was initiated on February 16, 1949. He was passed on March 23 and raised on April 23 of the same year.
A US Army Captain when he came to Japan in February 1948, Bro. Halliday rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel before his retirement. In 1984 he became one of the founding members of the new Golden 100 Club and was granted Life Membership No. 186. In retirement he settled down in El Paso, Texas.
MWB Hayao ONISHI (September 7, 2002)
MWB ONISHI was born in Tokyo on January 2, 1926. He was initiated into Yuai Lodge No. 11 on March 11, 1963, passed on May 13, 1963 and raised on June 17, 1963. He became the Master of Yuai Lodge in 1970, the Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Japan in 1980 and Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Japan in 1982.
He affiliated to Tokyo Masonic Lodge No. 2 in 1964 and to Far East Lodge No. 1 in 1967, and was the Inspector of the Far East Lodge No. 1 for 2001-2002.
MWB Onishi served as Chairman of the following Grand Lodge Commitees: Children's Festival Committee (1994, 1995, 1996, 1997), Reimbursement-per-diem Committee (2001) and Awards Committee (2002).
He became a member of the Tokyo Bodies, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite in 1968 and was a charter member of the Tokyo High Twelve Club No. 585.
Bro. Robert SCHREIBSTEIN (August 8, 2002)
Bro. SCHREIBSTEIN was born on May 2, 1921 in New York City. He was initiated into Far East Lodge No. 1 on April 14, 1954, passed on May 19, 1954 and raised on June 23, 1954. After returning to the United States he became a dual member of Day Light Lodge No. 44 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
WB Kazuyuki KUNIOKA (January 24, 2002)
WB KUNIOKA was born in Kauai, Hawaii on 6 April 1917. He was initiated into Far East No. 1 on 24 January 1951, passed on 23 May 1951 and raised on 18 July 1951. He was awarded his 25-Year Pin on 17 July 1976 and his 50-Year Pin on 9 October 2001
WB KUNIOKA was a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies in Tokyo and a dual member of Sagamihara Lodge No. 13, which he served as WM in 1960.
His last known place of residence was Richardson in Dallas, Texas.
Bro. Robert Fredrick BOWERS (February 22, 2001)
Bro. BOWERS was born on May 22, 1921 in Eugene, Oregon. He was initiated into Far East Lodge No. 1 on April 19, 1950, passed on July 12, 1950 and raised on July 19, 1950. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite, Tokyo.
Bro. James Clarence HOKE (October 22, 1998)
Bro. HOKE was born on June 19, 1923 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was initiated into Far East Lodge No. 1 on February 10, 1960, passed on April 20, 1960 and raised on May 23, 1960.
Bro. Herbert David SEGER, Jr. (January 6, 1995)
Bro. SEGER was born 1 November 1919 in Donora, PA, USA. He was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on 25 March 1954 and became a Life Member on 01 January 1990. At the time of his death he was resident in Sacramento, CA.
Bro. SEGER was Life Member No. 224 of Far East Lodge No. 1.
Bro. Alvin D. WILDER (February 4, 1993)
Bro. WILDER was born on May 11, 1918 in Berkley, California. He was initiated into Far East Lodge No. 1 on October 8, 1952, passed on November 19, 1952 and raised on November 30, 1952. At the time of his death he was a resident of Alameda, CA.
In 1976 Bro. WILDER received both his 25- and 50-Year Pins and became Life Member No. 169.
Bro. David J. WILLIAMS (August 4, 1991)
Bro. WILLIAMS was born on December 9, 1905 in Edwardsville, Pennsylvania. He was initiated into Far East Lodge No. 1 on September 14, 1960, passed on December 21, 1960 and raised on January 22, 1964. At the time of his death he was a resident of Honolulu, Hawaii.
In 1986 Bro. WILLIAMS received his 25-Year Pin and became Life Member No. 210.
Bro. J. W. LAMM (March 1, 1989)
Bro. LAMM was born in Erick, Oklahoma on 10 August 1938. He was initiated into Far East No. 1 on 13 September 1978, passed on 22 November 1978 and raised on 14 March 1979.
In 1979 he became Life Member No. 176. However, contact with him was lost in 1986 and his name was transferred to the roll of "Lost Members" in 1996.
Thanks to the researches of Bro. Garfield T. Roberts, we have been able to confirm that Bro. LAMM was killed in an automobile accident on 1 March 1989. He was buried in his home town of Erick, Oklahoma.
