A Special Meeting of Far East Lodge No. 1 was held on Saturday, July 29 to confer the First Degree of Masonry on Mr. Koji Konno. As with the Stated Meeting of July 1, the mid-summer scheduling found many of the Brethren out of town, but those able to attend filled their role (or roles!) admirably and Mr. Konno was initiated in due and ancient form.

WB Herrera had to send last-minute apologies when he was called to an urgent work assignment. MWB Katagiri took the East, with WB Buda in the West and MWB Watanabe in the South. During the conferral MWB Watanabe switched to SD to conduct the candidate, reverting to WM for the Obligation. Bro Miyata presented the Working Tools and MWB Watanabe gave the Apron Lecture. MWB Katagiri delivered the First Degree Lecture and MWB Watanabe gave the Charge. Almost all the degree work was conducted in Japanese.

Before the meeting the Secretary received yet another petition and reported that he had also received enquiries from at least five persons interested in joining the lodge. Lodge Far East No. 1 will now go dark for the month of August and will resume its labors on September 2, when Bro Wachi hopes to give his proficiency and be passed to the Second Degree.
