Since 1948 Far East Lodge No 1 (known as Far East Lodge No. 124 at the time) has shared the Yokohama Temple with the Brethren of Lodge Star in the East No. 640.
Last week the Brethren of Lodge Star in the East received sad tidings of the death of Bro. Alan Turney, a Past Master of the lodge who was also a frequent visitor to Far East Lodge No. 1 and served as our Tyler from 2000 to 2003.
Although Bro. Alan was relatively new to Masonry, having been initiated, passed and raised in 1995, he soon became one of the pillars of Lodge Star in the East and was also active in the Royal Arch Chapter in Kobe, Japan. He served three terms as Master of Lodge Star in the East in 1999, 2000, and 2006.
For over three and a half years ago he fought a courageous battle with bone marrow cancer, finally succumbing to kidney failure on December 19, 2006. A memorial service was held for him at Christ Church, Yokohama on December 25, and his funeral took place at the same church on the following day.
Lodge Star in the East plans to hold a Lodge of Sorrow for Bro. Alan some time in the New Year.
