During the informal lunch before the start of the Stated Meeting for June, MWB Katagiri reported that he was feeling a little feverish and was persuaded to return home and take it easy. As WB Herrera was unable to attend the meeting, some last-minute rearrangement of the work assignments was necessary and the Lodge was opened with WB Masaki in the East, WB Buda in the West, and MWB Watanabe in the South. After opening the Lodge, WB Masaki announced that Bro. Gerald W. Hudson, a life-member of Far East Lodge No. 1 resident in the United States, had been called to the Celestial Lodge (see Obituary). WB Masaki raised the Lodge for a minute's silence and then ordered the Charter draped for a period of thirty days.
A ballot was held on the application for membership of Mr. Yasushi Tamado. The ballot proved clear and it was decided to hold a double First Degree for Mr. Tamado and Mr. Koji Suzuki at our next Stated Meeting. Bro Honda announced that he was ready to take his Third Degree proficiency test. MWB Watanabe examined him in Japanese and at the conclusion of the examination WB Masaki declared Bro. Honda proficient in the Third Degree.
WB Masaki then lowered the Lodge to the First Degree for the purpose of initiating Mr. Hiroshi Komura and Mr. Tsuyoshi Taniuchi. Bro Sagara conducted the candidates with the help of Bro Tsuji. WB Masaki gave the obligation, MWB Watanabe delivered the Apron Lecture, and Bro. Tsuji presented the Working Tools, all in Japanese.
In the absence of MWB Katagiri, it was decided to postpone the Lecture and the Charge to the next meeting, when Bros Komura and Taniuchi would be joined by two more Entered Apprentice Masons. The possibility of conferring the Second Degree at a Special Meeting later this month was discussed and MWB Watanabe was directed to make arrangements.
WB Buda announced that Lodge Star in the East No. 640 would be holding an informal bowling tournament on Friday, June 8 at the Yokohama Country and Athletic Club and invited all interested Brethren to come and bring guests.
